About a month ago I started a very corporate job at a declining retailer after not working for 8 years. I surprisingly love the work! It's very fun. My general manager however has made me extremely uncomfortable on multiple occasions. Gossiping/Talking very personal, private things about multiple coworkers to me. (Mocking a coworkers weight, and revealed unalive attempts/assaults about a different coworkers family.) I want to report her & quit , but that in itself is terrifying. A part of me feels like this is normal work gossip, & I'm overreacting. Please give me opinions.
union info
Anybody have some printable union info that I can print for subway or Starbucks around my area? Thanks I'm advance
This is my first post here, and I'm fairly certain similar posts must have been posted here before, but, as the title says, I have seen my current position at my workplace being advertised online for 5k more than what I get paid. Does anybody have any advice on how to approach this with my employer? To my knowledge, they are not looking to replace me. They are looking at hiring someone else alongside me.
The Scourge of Oak Island
Today I was reading the Crimethinc article that is linked in the sidebar. https://crimethinc.com/2018/09/03/the-mythology-of-work-eight-myths-that-keep-your-eyes-on-the-clock-and-your-nose-to-the-grindstone There is a passage that says, “If work is productive, it’s even more destructive.” A little later, I found myself watching The Curse of Oak Island. It struck me how these guys obsession with finding lost treasure was spiraling out of control. They have pretty much destroyed the nice little island they purchased just for that purpose. While they move massive amounts of earth around, they only ever find evidence of job sites related to centuries of previous treasure hunters. The rate of destruction has been escalating rapidly since the beginning of the show, and for centuries since the treasure rumor started. They say that one more person must die before they find the gold, but the toll on the ecosystems in that area will certainly be much greater. All for what? Is all of the…
So if you are using LinkedIn to find a job and open to new opportunities you are likely getting messages from lazy ass lying recruiters that are either not forthcoming on the position they are hiring for or just mass sending out copy pasta to anyone that will listen. I remembered that there is an additional cost that these recruiters pay LinkedIn per InMail message to use their service and went looking thru the LinkedIn recruiter FAQ to see how the pricing works. Apparently, the LinkedIn AI uses some pretty basic rules to charge the recruiter for sending these messages, normal prompt responses either using the generated quick responses or decline options enable the recruiter to reclaim their messages without cost, so they can try to scam someone else. However, that AI function is only triggered if the InMail is accepted, declined, or responded to directly within 90 days of…
Dutch Newspaper delivery has to be done before 7:00 in the morning and they aren't open about the wages but its around 9,70 euro / hour if you manage to work as fast as they expect you to do, for they pay per delivery. They effectively ask you to work hard in the night shift for ~minium wage, and don't offer enough hours to earn a living. This surprisingly isn't that popular. They could just fix their wages or the working conditions. Instead they chose to offer a one time 1000 euro bonus for every new employee and only tell you in the small print that you have to remain working there for at least half a year to get the bonus. Their current employees only get the 1000 if they manage to find some new person who applies for the job, and the media (most of them benefit from…
I’m so tired of seeing these emails.
I feel nothing for my coworker
Our management changed and it's been stressful for everyone but she didn't handle it well. I recognized that she was having anxiety problems and panic attacks and explained that to her. She got some meds and that helped relieve that. Long story short, her position, which is the only one that existed, they decided to end it and have her work a different duty. She has lots of skills and experience so I knew she would be fully capable, but she was a mess, nearly crying and such. This is why I don't feel bad for her: She's over 60 and will be retiring soon. She owns a nice house. She has a new car she paid cash for. She has half a million dollars in her retirement account and it's invested and growing. Day after day I had to listen to her venting to me, coaching her anxiety, she…
