If my work divided it’s yearly profit evenly between employees, over 10,000 people could make 103k a year. I make 30k.

Most of our insanely smart people make 60-70k a year. We are being fucking robbed by an guy who inherited his company from his daddy and made all his college buddies execs. The meritocracy is a joke. And they wonder why we have such high turnover.

My house burned down in the morning and I was still expected to work my afternoon shift.

This was a few years ago but this sub has really helped me process how absolutely insane this was. I was working a part-time job at a mom/pop store during college. I woke up one morning to smoke and fire alarms. My entire apartment burned to the ground and I lost everything. The only thing I had were my car keys and cell phone. I called my boss and explained the situation, even sent photos. But no one was able to pick up my afternoon shift, so I was expected to come in. I had to go to Walmart with cash from the Red Cross to buy some clothes so I could dress for work. Money that should have gone to real necessities (you know, like food) had to be spent on jeans and a “nice” blouse. Thankfully I had awesome co-workers that donated clothes and other items to help…

Adam Smith… I know but hear me out.

I’m reading a book called the big three of economics right now I’m on the section about Adam Smith. So even Adam Smith said education was the responsibility of the govt because the specialization required in the work force would not be enough to give anyone a well rounded education and didn’t think trying to monetize education (again due to specialization) would work out.

Overtime pay

Texas social worker at a hospital. I’m salaried and have not been receiving overtime pay despite working well over 40 hours a week. Was told I didn’t need to clock out since I’m salaried. This doesn’t seem right. Anyone have insight?

Just how much lying can I get away with on my CV?

I’ve been trying to find a teaching job for the last 4 months. I have 10+ years experience, a master’s degree, and numerous areas of expertise. I’ve sent well over 50 applications at this point and received only 1 interview, which was unsuccessful. Today I received yet another rejection email which finally just broke me. I’ve done everything right. What more can I do? I’m just tired…

Got Fired for using my employee 30% off

Buckle up Ladies and gents because this is a long one with lots of context. On a throwaway because obviously. I work(ed) at a store called 2nd & Charles. It's essentially a book store but it sells games, movies, posters, manga, vinyl, CDs, etc. They also take in product (kinda like a thrift store) in which they scan the ISBN or SKU number of your old books and such and can give you some money for it. It's a nice hybrid of a pawn shop and a thrift store. They “buy” in customers old stuff for pennies and resell it for sometimes triple what the customer will get back. Now, say someone wants to see what they can get for their iPad. We would take it in, go on ebay, see what sold versions of that model of iPad are going for, and price it according to that. This then…

Do I find a new career? Or do I learn how to hate work and still be happy?

6 months ago I started my first corporate job with a good salary. I was pretty much paycheck to paycheck at my previous jobs, so this is the first time I'm able to live in my own apartment and can afford the lifestyle I've been wanting so bad. I'm grateful, I really am. I hated all my other jobs, and I thought cushy corporate would solve my problems. The work itself is okay – but the culture literally makes me want to vomit. The fakeness, passive aggressiveness, ass-kissing, and office politics is sickening. It makes me so anxious and I dread it every day. I've hated all of my jobs, but I love my personal life and I now love it more than ever since I can afford to do fun things. I'm not passionate about anything besides my friends and family. But I like to read mystery books, cook,…
