If you have seen the movie, it is beyond disheartening as it is virtually a biopic on the evils of capitalism in the hands a select few. My only solace is they name names at the end.
Work life balance
Just 1.4 million.
work life balance is for wimps
For context, I work part time at a grocery store in the middle of the downtown core. Lots of traffic, it’s the only large-ish supermarket in the area, and it’s one of the best performing stores in the chain despite being relatively smaller than most. I don’t hate it, but if I could quit, it would be the first thing I do. I earn minimum wage ($15 an hour, Canadian), we have a union, and overall, it is barely tolerable, just cause it’s retail. I work part time, about 12-15 hours a week, because I have a life to attend to, and a lot of stuff to sort out, mentally. Mental health aside, I don’t believe life should be wasted stacking milk crates or restocking the eggs constantly to make very little. I may use a lot of my free time to browse Reddit, but overall, it’s better than working…
I'm a 15 year old student who's loving with her parents without a part time because of the ongoing pandemic. I have to say that I'm honestly stressed about the world I'm living in. I'm fortunate enough to live in a middle class house with a parent that gets paid enough to sustain my family. (But my dad's a software developer so go figure.) I've known for a few years that life was going to be hard when I grew up and moved out of the household so I began to set myself unrealistic expectations. For a while I've been trying to make my self get all As in school and take the most advanced classes possible. The Idea being to try and set myself up for a scholarship but I've experienced burnout multiple times and I've finally come to the conclusion that the longer I keep this up, the…
According to StatsCanada, the average household income in Canada is 66K. The average income of a single person household is 34K. The average price of a home in Canada is now 816K, an almost 100% increase in 6 years. Real estate is now part of Canada's top three “industries”, along with oil and gas, and mining. Think you can buy a home if you just pull yourself up by your bootstraps? If you use the CMHC “housing affordability” calculator for a 66K household with a 50K down payment and $1100/month non-housing related expenses, it says that household can afford a $292K house. According to the housing affordability calculator, a household would need to earn 134K, have 100k downpayment, and no more than $1100/month in non-house related expenses to afford a $816K home. According to StatsCanada, only 10% of Canadian households earn over 100K per year. That means that 90% of…
So I walked tf out of that place. Baes fried chicken in Portland, screw you!
could just pay your staff that?
I just found out that in 2020 my sister was allowed to work from home, but the company told her she had to use her PTO for the days she worked from home. Yes, that's right: she was working at home for the company, yet they forced her to be paid by using her PTO. I told her that does not sound legal but she feels it's too late because it's been two years. She lives in the state of Kansas. She has a chronic illness that necessitates seeing specialists quite often along with having monthly infusions. She used up the bulk of her saved PTO and now has to take unpaid leave for most of these doctor visits. Anyone know if she has any recourse? Thanks!
