For context: my workplace takes good care of me, we have a huge culture of ensuring a good work life balance, bosses/managers treat me well, the work isn’t stressful, we never get overworked, it’s a chilled & laid back environment – it’s honestly ideal, we even get flexible hours (here is where the problem comes in)… So we basically get our usual annual leave days, and also we are able to earn days off – so for example, if I work an hour extra a day for 7 days, I can have an extra day off. Due to my managers never checking our timesheets (which we’re supposed to fill out), I kinda abuse this… heavily. I’ve taken 3 extra days off this year without actually working those extra hours, if I’m honest – I’ve probably worked less. I recently confessed this to one of my coworkers and encouraged him to…
This is how you quit a job
Short story. Grade 7. I was sick and in the infirmary. Another kid I knew named Steve* showed up. My dad worked until 1 so I had time to kill until he was home and they could call him, we talked a bit and the school nurse decided Steve should go home too. So she called his mom. Sorry she can't get you, her boss said if she left to take him home she's fired. I learned early on how shitty waitresses were treated. Steve told me his mom had been told numerous times basically your replaceable to shut up.
I work in a photography job and I’m being given hours that require me to get up at the crack of dawn, and I’m being scheduled FULL TIME when I am PART TIME. I am only given one 45 minute break even though I work outside in the sweltering heat. They set daily goals for everyone throughout the day, and I’m told that if the goal isn’t met you are written up Although They make the excuse that if you have good quality it won’t matter. I feel trapped. What are some good ways I can transition out of a job I hate into a work-free life where I make money by doing things I like?
Fuck Inflation and Supply/Demand
Just paid $11.00 for a watermelon……. Felt like Hitler in little Nicky with the pineapple…
And/or witnessed people jumping the line and getting promoted ahead of you for no good reason?
Your managers hate their lives too.
I've been seeing so many posts of people and their managers fighting through texts. I can see how difficult it must be to work (and live) under those circumstances. But I can't help but wonder (other than ones who are simply being assholes), how fucked up they must feel. Imagine being so desperate and driven to pressure induced anxiety, that you can not keep your cool when someone calls in sick. Imagine the pressure they get from their bosses between the endless paycuts, increasing expectations and disrespect. I'm not saying douchey behavior is justified, but imagine the journey that person had to go through before they got to the point of being a shitty human being. I highly doubt they go to bed as happy people either. Must really suck.
I used to work at an animal shelter. Anyone who works in the animal care field knows how upper management often takes advantage of people who are passionate about animals and will work for little to no pay to help rescuing animals. I was hired at this particular shelter a couple of years ago and my starting salary was $14.50 (minimum wage I lived). I was required to drive my own vehicle to attend locations for my work, and was not reimbursed for mileage. When cleaning out my office one day, I found an offer letter for my exact job from 2009. Not only did they offer mileage reimbursement, but they paid $15 an hour back then. Needless to say, I was LIVID. So I should have been earning close to $20 an hour based on that salary from 2009 if they kept up with inflation. Oh, and did I…
