Less than 24 hours ago I carried my beloved dog to the car for an emergency vet visit. She didn't make. No understanding from my boss, instead I'm told “not coming to work is not good.” Work norms in this county are garbage even at the best places.
Throwaway here. Worked as a state contracted provider administering therapy to the disabled. Our agency holds the contract with the state, they just hire providers to fill need as it comes along. Generally a case will only have one provider assigned until it is resolved or transferred. Sometimes there will be call outs and people will have to fill, or a provider feels they are not a good fit for a specific client, but this is generally how it goes. Car started breaking down and became unsafe to drive. Live in a kind of backwards area, no good bus service to the work site. Let the employer know that I'm going to need to leave the client I had agreed to take on since I had no transportation anymore. Lady emails me back. Never met her before. Must be someone important. says something like “Sure could damage your career if…
The US’s No Child Policies
This is a letter for anyone who has the following statements part of their vocabulary: “nobody wants to work”, “the young generations are entitled”, “young people have no work ethic”, “pull yourself up by your bootstraps”, “get a better job if you don't get paid enough”, “move out to the country if housing is so unaffordable”, “nobody is having kids anymore because they are selfish and lazy”, “get another job if you need more money”. “They want socialism and communism”, “young people have no patriotism”, “nobody is grateful that we live in the freest country on earth” There's definitely more that I could list. Listen up. The young generations of America want to raise children, want to get better jobs, and want to own a home. There's a combination of problems stopping most people from doing the things the older generations were able to do. Let's take a dive and…
How do you feel about on call jobs?
Just as the title says: I think I'd be a much happier worker, personally, if I was simply needed when actually needed, and gone when not.
I ask because I have never felt “safe” enough to leave a job without another in place. So, what are these folks doing for money, rent, food, etc. when they just up and leave? Are there really that many more options than I am aware of? Thanks for the insight from this community.
So last week, I had to call in sick for two days because I had an endometriosis flare up so severe that I could not stand or walk. All I could do was lay on the couch while my heating pad worked overtime. I barely ate because I could not manage to (literally) crawl to the kitchen for food. I’d just lay there and cry because I was in so much pain. I let my boss know that I couldn’t come in for a second day and she said that it was unacceptable and that I had to be there no matter what. I’m a dental assistant, so my job is extremely physical. I told her firmly that I cannot work when I can’t even stand up. When I returned to the office at the end of the week, still extremely sore and limping, she would not speak to me.…
