Major preface here, I support the antiwork movement and have for a long time. I believe employees on all levels are incredibly mistreated and a major movement could result in life altering changes. Also, I'm focusing on the US since that's my expertise… For a while I have seen countless posts of an employer doing generally shitty things that are within legality, but still incredibly shitty. All I will see in the comment section is “that's illegal, you should take them to court” or “DOL would love to see this!” the reality is, the DOL wouldn't care because laws allow a lot of shitty behavior. Didn't work mandatory overtime when you only got 12 hours notice? What does your handbook say? If it says you need to be able to cover unexpected shift openings, you can be terminated. Full stop Have a medical condition and can't attend work for 6…
I work for a small family company of about 10 people run by 2 brothers and one of their sons. They're your stereotypical multimillionaire rich assholes that regularly throw tantrums and blame issues on their overworked employees. Super toxic environment where everyone is miserable and walks on eggshells around them. A coworker in another department recently quit and I've been trying to cover her job and mine with very little support or training. They hired someone new but they expect me to train this person when I barely understand the job myself, super stressful and just bad management. Today we had a meeting where the boss was going nuts and getting himself worked up, saying we're going a lousy job and yelling for the entire office to hear. Then when he started picking on the new guy in my department (who has been handling so much and doing a great…
I see no difference
I’m a leader at an MLM.
I'm a “leader” at this mlm and I took the job out of desperation because I've been out of work for almost a month. I've been here for about 3 months now. I'm working 50+ hours a week. Yesterday I interviewed someone with a decent job and I just couldn't get through my script. It's a good job for newbs out of college or high school, but I would give anything to work 40 hours a week and not have to deal with the bullshit I go through. She was so excited to be going for a second round interview. She was willing to uproot her life, drive hundreds of miles, give away her cushiony job to work here because the executive lied to her about the job description, the pay, the title. She's the first person I was honest with, though I still remained professional. I was given one…
I’m new and I have questions
I’ve been lurking in here for all of 12 hours, which by internet terms makes me an expert… heh, not really. I’m not exactly an academic person, so as I read some of the recommended reading, I admit I only understood ~50% of it. So here’s the thing right? I have ADHD inattentive type (which behooves me – is it a product of my brain, or a symptom of the modern system that caters to neurotypicals? Shrug). But I have never been able to keep a job longer than a year and some change. The rest of my life has been a mad dash to catch up to my peers, to find some form of work, to be literally screamed at by managers and feeling traumatized by the constant anxiety, stress and depression that comes with toxic work culture. By some strange miracle, I’m about to graduate with a BFA…
