Hello, I work for a company that fixes equipment for several other companies. Due to contracts negotiated at the national level we have to have coverage from 8AM-midnight 7 days/week, 365 days/year, this works fine for large cities that have enough call volume to justify 20-30 technicians. My issue is that in slower areas like the one I work in the call volume is much lower and the company feels that this lower call volume only justifies 1 full time and 1 part time employee. The problem is that with only 1 1/2 employees it is very difficult to get that coverage and it keeps resulting in 16 hour days and big emergencies whenever someone gets sick or wants to take time off. To my mind it takes 4 employees to get that coverage and not have an emergency if someone needs time off, although if we had 4 employees…
$7.25 per hour
does anyone actually get paid $7.25? I understand that’s the technical minimum wage, and yes $15 and even $25 is not enough. I see a lot of posts out there complaining about the $7.25 issue.. but is anyone really still getting paid this (jobs including tips aside).
I work at a startup. We were surprised this week that more than 10% of the company was being let go immediately and there’s going to be a big reorganization. I’m 36 and have seen this type shitshow at most jobs I’ve had. I’m tired of it. I was talking to a younger guy in his mid 20s about it. He mentioned how much it sucks to have your friends at work kicked to the curb so suddenly, and frustration that so much of the work he had done and was currently doing is now useless with the changes being announced. I did my best to be as empathetic as I could in the moment while still behaving professionally. But I really wanted to loudly rant about how this shit has been normalized. Even with a severance package, it’s insanely stressful having this axe hanging above our heads at all…
Ask for a raise. Ask for a transfer Put in my two weeks. My manager has been sexually harassing me for months. I recently cussed him out for asking me for a no strings attached situation. Executive manager knows this. She has not spoken to me about it (been a week or two). A few days ago he requested to follow me on Instagram. I get the shit end of the work stick (ie having to pick up other people's slack, bail out people when they're getting fucked, etc.). I do not want to be management. I do not want responsibility. I want to show up to work, do my job, and go home. My friend (who was recently promoted and who I want to follow and work for) put in his nightly email that I was upset and considering leaving because once again I had to work and close…
Workplace accommodation issues
I’m at a loss on what to do. Backstory: I was getting bad scores at my remote IT/call center job. I started documenting my activity in great detail. And using the “personal time” status to get up and use the restroom outside of assigned breaks. I try to drink enough water (1-3L a day). My scores went up because my work time was no longer bogged down by my restrooms breaks during work status. My supervisor then complains i have 2.5 hours per week of personal time and that is unacceptable. (I take 4x 5min breaks for pee/refilling water. And 1x 10min #2 so 30 mins a day.). I am told i need to get a workplace accommodation for restroom frequency. “Maybe they can throw in an extra unpaid 15 minute break”. Not sure how that helps someone with frequent restroom trips. But whatever ill follow procedure. I go in…
Which I did. I took my wife to Arizona which used to be super cheap. Now it’s not but cheaper than where we come from. And I upgraded jobs, by a lot. And yet… I can’t afford my rent and medical bills for my wife. We are in the hole by 1000 or more a month, living frugally. Never seen this and counting the months to homelessness now.
