I joined the great resignation and it was the best choice I’ve ever made.

After years of telling myself I'd never find a better job I finally had to concede that absolutely no job is worth the toll it was taking on my mental and physical health. I saved up a bit, worked out a plan to pick up hours at my dad's office, and I quit. It came with mountains of doubt, a few solid panic attacks and a whole lot of feelings about myself but after 5 months I landed a nearly identical gig with more vacation than I had “earned” in 10 years at my old place and best of all… it came with a 40% raise on my base pay and a real bonus plan. Just wanted to share my little “fuck yeah!” with you all! Keep fighting the good fight! You guys rock!

I’m a teacher who walked off my job

I'm a kindergarten teacher in a tough city and I specialize in working with severely traumatized children. I came to a charter school midyear and inherited a class that had gone through four teachers and was generally difficult to work with. I'm talking non stop fighting, screaming, running around. I turned that around in two months. I created my own art projects, behavior charts, games and songs. Kept showing up kept being kind to them, kept celebrating their successes stayed calm no matter what . Got nothing but praise from our dean principal and families . Well then I found out I was being paid less than the other kindergarten teachers, who had less credentials than me . I spoke to our CEO and she swore…

I had to work during a volcanic explosion

I live on a very small island in the Caribbean and our volcano erupted last year and we had to work during the eruption. Two days after it erupted we were expected to return to work despite ash still falling, a water shortage and the fucking volcano still rumbling. The company also provided little aid to workers until they were blasted on social media. After everything sorted about two months later then we started to get supplies of bottled water after regular running water had returned.

Can we stop with the #notallboomers schtick?

There's something I see happening from time to time on this sub: a post or comment decrying the actions of boomers (individually or collectively) and a portion of the responses saying “I'm not like that”', “Please don't lump us all in the same group”, “Ageism!”, etc. The baby boomer generation has been around for longer, enjoyed more privilege, made more decisions, cast more votes, than any successive generation. And all those decisions, all those votes, every bit of inaction has given all of us the world we have now. This is the exact same nonsense as #notallmen arguments. Too many boomers have voted in 'bought' political advocates, too many boomers haven't protected their labour rights or those of others. If your first instinct when hearing criticism of boomers is to think and say “That's not me!”, then please reflect on why you're taking it as a personal attack. If you…
