This startup I work for seems to be a repeat offender on this subreddit (mentioned before on another post). But I won’t be revealing names because I signed an NDA. Long story short, I work in tech as a designer, doing full time unpaid work as an intern (for school) this summer. Since they’re a startup I expected a more lenient culture since they’re literally getting free labour from students. But no, management has been implementing stupid rules that makes efficiency slower. For example, in addition to clocking in/out, they want the interns to show proof of their work by adding it to a google drive (which means as a UX/graphics designer I have to upload incomplete drafts everyday, it clutters up and confuses everyone). A few weeks ago, they mentioned in passing that from now on we have to CC our department supervisor in every email we send using…
A couple of questions..
I recently interviewed with a company with the help of a friend who put in a good word and pushed my resume where I was denied the job in the final interview. Couple of questions. Is it common for interviewers to do deep dive questioning into mental and physical health? I had mentioned due to some spacing in between jobs that I had been focusing on my mental health and working on some physical health without giving any details then to be questioned deeper into it. I also had a weird question from one of the interviewers (it was a 3 person panel) if I would punch my friend in the face. I kind of laughed at this when he posed the question because due to my friends sense of humor I thought it was just a question to break the ice. Of course I answered well no, you'd have…
So I am a team member at a warehouse for pet supplies. There are 3 major areas inventory control (IC), recieving (in-bound – IB), and shipping (outbound – OB) along with a few smaller areas that require promotions. In two of these areas there is a slew of sub areas, especially in OB where I'm primarily assigned. As a “Fullfilment Specialist” (official title) they can and will cross-train us on a rotation for all the various sub areas. BUT no matter how much extra training you get you get and how many areas you are trained at you will NOT be given an increase in pay unless you are forklift certified and then it's less than a dollar. Oh! But that's not all the week is split in 2 shifts; 3 days at 12 hours (11.5 after lunch) and 4 days at 10 hours (9.5 after lunch) and there is…
My boss (general manager) yelled at me (shift manager) today in front of more than half the crew, about me needing to leave early for a mental health appt that finally came through on a cancellation for my daughter (10 years old) it was embarrassing and I apologized about it in front of everyone. When I took my break I was crying in the parking lot. My boss texted me “No crying in the parking lot. Lol. Jk. I'm sorry if I seemed upset earlier. I understand.” I went back to work for another 1.5 hours and NOTHING was said and just got off work, went to the appt, and now am sitting in my car wondering why I put up with this. I'm a manager at McDonald's with an accounting degree. I left accounting because I was very unhappy in an office. I don't need this job, its entry…
A few disclaimers, I'm kind of afraid of being gaslighted and demeaned for my differing opinions. –I don't think any less of people with differing opinions, your life isn't mine, you do what's best for you. –Work to me is anything I do that is productive outside of my internal world. Taking out trash, craft/material hobbies, exercising, ect… A job just pays me to do these things. At most places I have had a job, for the most part, this goes off without a hitch, I do things, I get paid. Occasionally though I have run into people who take advantage “ENTER THE HYPOCRITE” … This person usually has some form of perceived authority (legit or not) over me. They think because they oversee that they are not my coworker (someone who is getting paid to do stuff). They think that since they give directive that they are then above…
Biggest Bootlicker of the day
You’re not an Engineer
I started a new job and grad school peak pandemic. Since day 1 my boss told the engineers we work with to include me in all relevant conversations since that’s my background and eventual masters degree will be in. It’s what I wanted and the info is relevant my position anyway. I don’t hold an official engineering title on my team but I’ve essentially done the job since I started..Don’t worry, I’m not working 40 hours even with extra tasks. Last week we were on a call talking about quality issues with our supplier and they asked for specific direction on a few very easy issues and no one from the team responds. It’s dead silent for a solid minute so I ask a clarifying question and get a good answer. crickets. I chime in to say their direction makes sense but I’m only one person on the call. crickets.…
