is the 1% REALLY only 1%?
I was wondering if the 1% is actually only 1% and what it means for the working people. Professions like influencing are making swarms of people rich, more people are buying up in real estate etc etc. I googled how many people in the UK earn over 100k, couldn't find many useful answers. Tried a different search to find that something like 1. 2 million people or 4% of WORKING people earned over 100k. By working people I assume that means people doing a job for a salary and doesn't include people earning through passive income. My old manager used to drive a porsche to work (as a restaurant manager mind) which is an 80k car. I live in a wealthy area but I don't think people earning only 100k (take home between 70-80k) are really spending on 80k cars? A years wage? Or the several million pound properties that…
This happens to me so often especially on Indeed. Job headers will say Orlando Florida only to actually be in Gary Indiana. It’s the same thing as not listing the salary it just wastes everyone’s time.
The week of strikes
So I've been lurking all week to see if anyone mentioned this. Last week in Jamaica there were a series of strikes. While I was very glad to hear about these strikes and was secretly proud, a lot of people were condemning the striking. The first strike, as mentioned, was by the water company. They shut everything off so the country was without water. This also really goes to show why monopolies should not exist. https://jamaica.loopnews.com/content/over-2000-nwc-workers-strike-over-compensation-issues Second strike was by air traffic controllers which caused us to close our airports: https://www.travelagentcentral.com/caribbean/jamaicas-airports-shut-down-due-air-traffic-controller-strike Third strike was by civil servants: https://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/news/20220513/nht-workers-walk-job It was quite eventful but the government was adamant that the strikes stopped including the prime minister and the minister of labour: https://www.jamaicaobserver.com/latest-news/pm-urges-public-sector-workers-to-desist-from-strike-action/ https://www.jamaicaobserver.com/latest-news/samuda-condemns-air-traffic-controllers-strike/ I was really hoping this would strike a revolution out here but everything has died down and it feels like everyone has moved on.
Nobody WANTS to work, Denise
My cashier @ CVS, Denise, was complaining how ”you can’t hire nobody that wants to work no more!” Well Denise, Nobody ever WANTED to work. we WANT to draw, paint, dance, make music, etc but work has always been an unfortunate necessity of life. But when ppl work full time and still can’t make ends meet while the company they work for makes millions but refuses to pay them a living wage, it has an incredibly demoralizing affect on said workers who don’t want to bust their ass for a company that doesn’t give a damn about them. When teachers ask kids what they want to do when they grow up, I highly doubt a single one has ever answered “I want to work in Retail!”
Rent or food
And that's why I hate companies.
I’m really angry about this. Mostly at myself for accepting a job that involves going into an office. I knew it was only a matter of time until something like this happened. The state I lived in lifted Covid indoor precautions, so no one wears a mask. I should have just held out for a job where I could work from home. Just want to break something right now
