Today I told my students that I was very tired marking a few hundred exam essays over a couple of working days (ridiculous, I know) and that I would really appreciate them cooperating with me today. One of them responded, “Why are you complaining? It’s your job.” That really crushed me. The failure of society to recognise labour rights will only perpetuate this horrendous cycle among our young.
So frustrating
Holding employer accountable
I’m slowly redeeming my self worth from the repercussions inflicted by a the most horrible workspace of my professional life. I wouldn’t wish my employment experience on my worst enemy. I want to hold my former employer accountable and would like to know if anyone is aware of platforms outside of this community where I can share my experience and warn potential applicants. So far I have submitted negative reviews to indeed and Glassdoor. I appreciate all feedback and guidance. Thank you.
I called in 12 hours before my shift because I'm getting sick as hell and loosing my voice. Instead of calling me, they told my dad when he stopped by my work for gas. There's no way in he'll that's legal right? He's not an emergency contact and they didn't even call me first. I hate this job so much I'm about to quit.
Hi all. I recently got employed at large-scale sports clothing store. I'll keep it nameless for anonymity. I live in Ireland, and from what I understand you can only work up to 8 hours between ages 16-17. I've just been notified that I'm to work a 9 hour shift this Saturday, with a 1 hour break at some point. As a 17 year old, is it legal for me to work a shift this long?
