As title suggests I’m a delivery driver for a locally owned pizza chain. As everyone knows gas prices have gone through the roof in recent months which is literally costing hundreds more in gas expense every month. It seemed fair to ask for a slight increase in pay so I asked for a small hourly raise (like $1/hr) and was told he can’t pay us more since the cost of everything is going up and he’d be “taking it on the chin.” So I decided to ask for a small increase in delivery fees since as a delivery driver I get to keep the fees for gas. I was thinking like a 20% delivery fee increase so a $2 delivery fee would go up to $2.40, $3 to 3.60, $4 to $4.80, $5 to $6. This seemed like a pretty small increase but would add up and help offset extra…
It’s absolutely fucking infuriating.
Came across this just now
Child daycare cost?????
Why is a daycare program for my child so expensive? I make $25 an hour and it would cost me half of my 40 hour paycheck BEFORE taxes to send my kid to a care center for 5 hours a day, so I can go to work and make money. All the jobs I see posted for daycare workers pay like $12-$14 an hour, what the fuck am I missing here?
I cannot stress how much national companies that staff events infuriate me. After waiting three weeks to hear about getting paid for working an event as a concessions worker, I was told that it would take a month or more to get paid, and not to contact the company that does payroll directly because they would not respond. After contacting the area representative to state that I did not want to be asked to be recruited, I was gaslit and they tried to manipulate me to keep working events. Do they not get that we're still in the middle of a pandemic, $11/hour won't even help to pay a bill, and that normal people can't wait a month/month and a half to get paid? I'm sorry for ranting, but this is bulls**t and it's been a crappy few months with running into dead-end jobs.
So yeah. I work in a nonprofit as a case manager for CPS kids. Me and two old ladies do everything and if any one of us left the place would shut down. I put in my resignation because they were not paying me minimum wage for salary earners who are exempt from overtime ($684/week). Saying “we don’t have to follow that” really, y’all don’t have to follow a law set in place by the department of labor??? Ok. So I Told them: pay me and I’ll train my replacement because for personal reasons I gotta go (really, my boss is retraumatizing the children and breaking state laws and I’m about to shut the place down) and I put the date down of when I’d leave (Aug 26th) and I know I went too easy but, I love those kids and wanted to give them a chance to make it…
So out of touch
‘Competitive pay’
Competitive pay my a$$. Who here is tired of hearing that in job adverts? If your pay was so competitive then why not mention it upfront. Drives me mad. I recently had an employer approached and they just told me their pay upfront which was actually competitive. If your pay is so competitive then simply disclose it.
