Year of Work, Not a Single Dime.

Hello, I am a massage therapist for a small company that works with disabilities. I also am freelance, and have a second job working at a spa. I have quite a large group of clients working independently, and thats where most of my money comes from. This small company was started by a woman who cannot hold her **** together. It’s unorganized, and every person she has hired as an assistant to help this company has quit. I have worked here for about a year now, and every month I am told I am going to get paid, and yet I havent seen a single check in my name. I found out recently that my boss is currently in a legal battle with an insurance company from one of the clients, and the payout is supposedly “huge” and my boss told me she will be able to pay me after…

Does anyone here actually not work or only live on part time income? What is your life like? Are the sacrifices worth it?

I hate my job. I hate feel like a dog begging for scraps. I can’t live like this. I am seriously considering just going part time and going without. I grew up really poor tho and the anxiety of wondering how much every single thing eats into your budget is so strong. Idk which is worse, the dread and horror I feel having to work full time or the dread and anxiety of not having enough to live on. For those that actually don’t work or only work part time what is it like? Do you regret it? Has your life improved or are you not really any happier? What do you do for health insurance? I feel like if I’m never gonna be able to afford buying a house or paying off my student loans or having kids anyway what is the point of working like this? I’m not…

I just wanted to point out that companies hire consultants to literally highlight and resolve issues surrounding employee retention. In some cases, management may genuinely be grateful, but be careful not to stay in a toxic working environment just because they deceive you into feeling valued!!

Two weeks’ notice. Obligation or curtasy?

Hi. Just wondering, is 2 weeks' notice by law? Does that also work the other way around? Do you also get a 2 week's notice before they fire you?

“Why are you leaving your current employer?”, or “If I were honest”

Well, to be frank, it's because my dog has to have someone home with him during the day. Since the divorce, I'm the only one not working from home, so he lives with my ex. Don't get me wrong, my ex is a good guy but I want my dog back. Working from home would empower me to use my clinical skills and judgement, while providing my little guy with love and affection all day. Instead I say some shit like “Graduating from my Masters degree program” or “in order to reach a wider demographic of patients/consumers”.

Is it true that millennials will inherit their boomer parents money?

So why should we complain right? Our boomer parents and grandparents are rich and we will inherit their homes and investments? So don’t worry about buying our own homes?

I’m qutting my first job after 6 years of what was essentially slave labour

Throwaway account to keep anonymity (I don't want to risk my employer seeing this and having the jump on me), some context (I'll try to keep it somewhat summarised): I (M22) have decided to quit my software engineering job (which happens to be my first and only job ever) and move overseas to my SO. I've been working for the same company for over 6 years. During those 6 years, my role changed substantially, but my title or pay was not. I made just above minimum wage in the UK during that entire time (in fact I was actually paid below minimum wage for over a year which after kindly contacting my manager several times, they finally increased my pay to minimum wage and back paid me what was owed). Also, literally no benefits. Up until Christmas 2020, a 140 hour work week was actually considered a good week. I…

The Worst Job Interview

I had a very last minute interview yesterday with a Canadian women's clothing company and I couldn't believe their disgusting practices. Here is what I remember: -hair and makeup must be done and must fit the brand's image. Hair must be “professional” looking. -employees are to wear clothing only from the brand and this includes accessories and you must wear accessories. Employee discount is only 50% and to get an idea of how expensive clothes are at this brand, a sleeveless top is $60, a t-shirt is $80, sweatpants $80, a cardigan $200…you get the idea. -If you wear denim, it cannot be from other brands. It must be from their brand and not just that, but it must be from this current season (must still be sold in stores), it cannot be from previous seasons. If they require me to wear only their clothes, then it's a fucking uniform…

I’m so tired of that fake ‘persona’ companies have during the hiring process. What is your ‘turns out to be’ experience?

We love your energy and new ideas – turns out to be – we have always done it looks this (an excuse to not even look at new ideas). Room to move up -turns out to be – someone probably has to die first because we don't actually know how to grow our company, we just keep tasking the same people with more work. This is a new position – turns out to be – we have a horrible turn around rate and we just keep redefining the same position. We support our employees because they are the back bone of the company – turns out to be – we can't find any room in the budget to purchase safety materials that will instill confidence in our team and provide an environment in which they don't need to worry about their well-being. We are equal opportunity – turns out to…
