$855/month rent increase

Saw this on TikTok and almost had a heart attack. She says in a comment the 12 month lease is still a $605/month increase. https://www.tiktok.com/@webravelygo/video/7081308596742442282?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1

Exploited by Anthropologie in San Antonio

This was nearly a decade ago by now, but in 2013 I got a job at the Anthropologie store in San Antonio. I was young and in college so I was stoked to get a “cool” retail job somewhere where I would be able to get a sizeable discount on some clothes and save some cash for school. They kept calling me Emily the whole time I worked there (not even CLOSE to my name) because they hired me at the same time they hired a girl named Emily. Kinda shitty, but the worst part was that at the end of the day they required every single item in the store to be folded and “fluffed.” If the store ran out of hours they were able to pay people for their work they would literally have us clock out and then continue working, telling us it was OUR fault for…

Fire you on the spot

I've had a fair share of employment stories in my time and this is one of my first ones. Back in the days, when I was a student, one of my first job was in housekeeping for a relatively big and well known hotel chain. After a couple of days of training, we (the new recruits) were sent on our own…. I know, I know… cleaning a hotel room is as easy as cleaning your own room at home. Well … almost so, if you get to clean a few in a day. Not so much if you get to clean 10 or 15 in an 8 hour shift and still get it done perfectly. No OT ofc. OT for base hourly pay is expensive. 🙂 As a couple of weeks went by, the manager started complaining about the level of work we do and how their top 10 years…

The main thing I’ve learned as a young professional is that HR is evil

The first job I had out of college, I interacted with HR twice: once when I had a sexual harassment complaint, which ended up taking 2 agonizing months to “resolve” and ended with the offender not being punished at all and me still having to work on the same team with him and just… Deal with him being a huge man baby about the whole thing. The second time was when they fired me without issuing a warning first and making no attempt to fix the issue. I understood both situations from their point of view and I know they were just doing their job, but obviously that left a horrible taste in my mouth for ever involving HR in any issue I experience I work. I took another position very briefly with a company that seemed great in every way except their HR documents (the employee handbook had several…

I quit my job yesterday and I’m not concerned at all.

I've only been working there a few months, nothing serious just a gas station job until I find something decent. So, from the beginning I felt like an outcast, I guess, no real formal training, whenever I'd ask a question, I would get either an eyeroll or, a sigh and even sometimes attitude and negativity for no reason whatsoever. This one guy I worked with from time to time didn't like me, for whatever reason I don't know. Anyways I come into work on my off day to get some things to drink and what not, guy who doesn't like me rings me up, he starts off by aggressively scanning my drinks slamming the scanner down every time instead of just holding it consecutively. He then asks for my rewards card, there is a line of people behind me at this point (I am recently coming to terms with the…

Wednesday I got fired over the phone

I was set to return to work Monday after being on disability since October. Little did my former employer know I already had a lawyer ready in case I was fired returning to work. Needless to say I memorialized every conversation I had with my former employers but I have texts saying they still had my job upon my return only to get a phone call saying they got rid of my whole job title. With that being said I already had a back up job lined up and now I have a wrongful termination lawsuit on my hands

I tested positive for COVID and am relieved I don’t have to go to work

My first thought wasn't that I hope I don't get too stick or that I wouldn't be able to leave the house for the next five days. My first thought was relief at the idea that I wouldn't have to go to work on Monday.

Got fired for “thinking too much”

From feb 2021 i have worked as a door to door sales man, as we can all agree its a annoying job for both me and the people i talk to. But it was the only job i could get. I was really good at the job, because if your just nice to them and dont assholes and ask people who do really need the product you will fill out 9 forms a week. One problem with the system is that i need homeowners (aka asshole boomers) to get paid, we cant sell to renters for some reason. so i could give them the sales speech then find out they are renting so for some reason i cant get paid for them. So i found a smart way to make the business for affective and i dont have to waste time with people that the company refuses to…
