The electronics company that I work for ventured into the car battery manufacturing sector a few years ago. It started out as one line and then last summer a second line was added with a third one setting up in the near future. Employees have come in knowing that the shifts are 11-12 hours a day/55+ hours a week. Most recently, because of a labor shortage, there was mandatory overtime forcing us to work up to 7 days a week. While most of us don’t want to work every single day, we all came aboard knowing we’d be working overtime. So now after a recent hiring craze, our thank you for standing by the company through unprecedented times is a reduction in pay. They are forcing us to vote on a schedule change that will have us working as little as three days in a week. One of the options…
Stood up to my boss.
So I’m a young manager in a beauty store, I’ve been working here for less than a year. I started off as a stocker and within 6 months they made me manager (red flag). So I technically do everything around the store, do orders, do inventory, payroll, everything that has to do with management for $12 dollars an hour. Yesterday I called my boss who is also the owner of the store to ask him if I could work in the morning on Saturday because something came up. I should’ve known what to expect, just a straight no, and I kind of broke because I’m tired of everything. Whenever they need me to come in I come, if someone doesn’t show up on my off day I come, if I’m sick I still have to show up. I explained how I was feeling, about my pay, and how the whole…
“You earn more by spending less”
This is a common saying among well off people that are trying to “motivate” people that are looking to make more money. As this is true, a lot of them say you have to get rid of the majority of luxury items and spend the bare minimum… That brings a few points. A lot of people are already spending the bare minimum they have because they already don't have much. How is this advice good for these people? With that advice, people already spending $10 a day should be Rollin around in money. And 2. You basically have to live without fun. Not spending money on leisure things when you're already barely able to afford leisure things is like a slap in the face. People already have to slave away at jobs, sometimes even multiple, just to make ends meet. So you're telling me the only way to become financially…
My boss messages me on teams all the time after 5.30pm. Sometimes at 12am having a go at me for something I have missed or done something wrong. His excuse is that he need to 'get stuff off his chest' when he thinks of it or see it and I’m happy to just ignore him but we’ve had numerous people have huge meltdowns because they think they have to do it right there and then. My colleagues higher up have told him not to do this due to it causing anxiety. Does anyone else have this issue?
How should I quit my toxic job?
Backstory: I’ve been an EMT for a private dialysis transport company for the past 4.5 years and it’s been the worst time in my entire life. I work on average 70 hours in a week. Shifts start around 3-4am and go until 6-7pm. Half of our ambulances don’t work (no heat, no AC, constant mechanical problems that are fixed with “band-aids” instead of actually repaired. My work schedule is handed out daily, and randomly. Tomorrow’s schedule may come out at 2pm and it may come out at 8pm. There’s no telling. This has prevented me from having a social life for 4.5 years. I’ve lost long time friends due to work. I’ve been unable to schedule doctor appointments due to work. The boss is extremely toxic and verbally abusive and expects me to do more than what I’m supposed to do. So I decided to quit. Without a 2 week…
At my job they had THERAPY DOGS..
But after 6 minutes they told us to go back to work :S I wasn't finished with the therapy dogs thank you
I have to give references to a job I applied to and I'm thinking about getting a disposable phone to fake my ex-boss's number since he was a dickhead. Has anyone faked a reference before? Was it successful? Did they actually call the number? What did they ask and what did you say when you picked up? Thank you,
…and they totally get away with it. I worked at a small local convenience store where one lady with 15 yrs at the job would belittle me and say things like, “I was testing your knowledge, and you failed.” Directly in front of customers. Another lady with 5 years told our bread vendor that, “the young guy with the beard out there will do anything he can to get out of doing any work at all.” (I'm 35 years old and she didn't know I heard that) Another girl with 3 years experience yelled at me in front of customers saying, “don't put tickets on the rail at random…put them at the end!!!” (She just told someone else that she was keeping track of ticket times, so it didn't matter where she put them). So after this final fiasco, I told her not to talk down to me during dinner…
Boss told everyone but me to stay home
I’ve been working at a restaurant and today the streets had ice. I waited to see if they would text in the group chat and say we were going to either close for the day, or maybe open later than usual(they have done this before when weather conditions weren’t safe). Since i didn’t receive anything i went ahead and made the 30 minute drive. Got here and the only people there were the cooks. Then the boss proceeded to call a manager and instructed him to tell everyone else to stay home since i was here and he’s thinking of closing early. The earliest he’s ever closed is 10, even if it’s a slow day due to weather conditions. I’m so mad bc he might as well have closed if he knew it wasn’t going to be safe to drive but he waited until i got there to make this…
He was hostile to work with and I told him I had PTSD and I was suicidal. He told me “I have enough on my plate as it is without a coworker making something out of nothing”. After a week in a mental health facility after being found out by my husband I was planning to OD, I just feel so defeated. She said I was in a male dominated field and she can't force them to be nice to me. I just need to toughen up because he was just being a man. I know men. They don't act like that. Shitty people act like that. Any legal advice is well received.
