forced out for not drinking the kool-aid

Hey all. I have to go in for a meeting with the store manager in a couple of days, which I'm 100% sure means I am getting fired. I work for one of the largest, most well-respected grocery chains in the U.S., and my aunt is very high up in the company. She works with the owners on a daily basis. I asked her eight years ago when I got the job how she moved up from being a cashier to where she is now and she said, “You have to drink the kool-aid”. Reflecting on the past eight years I now realize more than I might have thought before taking this job that drinking the kool-aid is just not something I can pull off. My face gives me away. But from the time I started with this company, I really tried to buy their bullshit. How they were the…

Professional development

I work for an organization that they do not believe in growing their employees. I have asked for work related training and it gets turned down every year. Last 7 years, I attended 2 paid training sessions. I worked at 2 other companies and professional development was mandatory. We had to have minimum of 40 hours of training every year. I wan't to learn and better myself, but my employers dones't see it that way. To them it's an expense. What a pitty…

Dealing with micromanaging?

I've finished training for a new company and noticed my line manager has been micromanaging the hell out of my daily functions. She's been giving me shit for changing my chat messenger status to do not disturb when completing grueling tasks; I don't find this as an issue and keep getting threatened with warnings. When I actually have a question regarding my work she doesn't respond and I'm forced to wing it, which, causes even more issues. I've already begun looking for a new job but in the meanwhile what is the best course of action?

Pulled Into Work Drama That I Had Nothing to do With

I'm a machine operator. There are 2 people partnered up on each machine. Two people (guy and girl) working on their machine acrossed from mine got into a big argument and had to be separated by the supervisor. So, the supervisor tries to swap me and the girl so I'd be running her machine and she'd be running mine. I told the supervisor fuck no, I've been on this same machine for 2 years, I like it, I know it like the back of my hand and I'm not gonna be in a miserable situation all because they want to act like children. So now supervisor is pissed at me and I think he's trying to think of a way to fire me. Should I just go over to to that machine like he wanted me to? Btw, he's been a shit supervisor even before this. EDIT: I work night…

Colleagues Are Saying How Busy They Are Today. I’m Sat Here On Reddit

Slow day for me as my manager isn't in so I can't be micromanaged and told what to do. Only been here 4 months so still looking for work to do. Mainly been answering the phone and reading reddit threads. Why can't every day be this good?

working in the veterinary field

So I've worked in the veterinary field at large and small animal clinics on and off since 2010. Yeah people may think it's cool to work with animals but this field is highly under paid and some clinics don't offer health insurance. I was accosted in r/vettech because I said I want a job where I work to live not live to work. I love animals but it's not worth the lack of pay, benefits, time off etc.

Customer satisfaction surveys are so dehumanizing

Everytime i get asked to rate someone from support i feel bad for them. I gotta give them credit because if every act i did was rated by a client i would get pretty annoyed. Not every small thing needs evaluation if you ask me.

my time has value

My time has value. Everyone's time has value. Except, apparently, when you are waiting on a medical appointment. This isn't exactly a complaint about employers or companies, so I apologize… But I'm really sick and tired of doctors just acting like their time is infinitely more valuable than anyone else's. Why is it acceptable to give me an appointment time, only to make me wait an hour past my time, then see me for 5 seconds and bill me a shit ton of money? Not only have I now lost work/personal time beyond what I originally budgeted for this appointment, but you've basically dismissed me as a person with any value at all.

Poaching is fucking awesome, and the only person who should feel bad about it is the person who deserves it.

I don't know if this is the kind of thing this sub will appreciate, but it's been grinding my gears. I'm kind of stagnating at my current job, and there's another unit at the organization where I think I'd be a much better fit. I've reached out about my interest both to the person who runs this new unit and to my boss's boss who oversees both my current unit and the new unit. Both of them say I'd be a great fit and that they'd love to have me. The new unit has had a lot of attrition (like every other job lately) so there's definitely room for me. But it's not fucking happening. The problem is that they're both worried about antagonizing my current boss by poaching me away. The thing is, my current boss sucks. She deserves to be losing people. She's also a first-time manager who…

76000 hours

Or 8.676 years is how long you will have worked if you worked 40 hours a week for 40 years. Imagine spending 8.676 years somewhere you don't want to be. Literally trading your precious time on this planet wage slaving away inside a building making your boss rich. This does not include travel to and from work. 8 hours is half your waking day. The remaining time you are exhausted from working and you have to cook and clean and grocery shop. Work is wage slavery.
