I handed my Regional my resignation… It went like this.

He high-five and hugged me. Said he knew it was coming and was proud of me for following my dreams. Wish my manager cared as much as my regional. Thanks for always being amazing, Greg.

Our workplace is trying to make us feel bad and create peer pressure so we don’t take any sick days

I’ve got a job and my plan was to stay here until September to save money. Looks like I’ll be leaving earlier. Today was my first day and my new boss starts talking about how we are a small family and how we are all equal, etc. In my experience this is usually a sign that the workplace is extremely toxic. Right after talking about this he explains to me that our workplace has a plan to fight against absenteeism. So we get paid the minimum wage and depending on how much we work we can get up to 100€ more of commissions per month. But apparently that’s a lot, most people hardly get more than 50€. He explained to me that if we take a sick day, you won’t get any commissions that month. If you take two sick days or go on leave all the coworkers will only…

Being stuck in low-paying boring job? Try coding/programming as there is huge shortage of developers, companies are willing to hire juniors with zero previous experience.

> be me > high school grad, now industrial worker > wake up every morning at 5am for 8hours of boring manual work in a factory > get some average salary, but with current inflation rate it's not going to be enough > can't imagine doing this for the rest of my life > friend is luring me into IT field > says companies can't find any new developers to hire > idea.jpg > spend few months on tutorials learning coding/programming in my free time > doing little steps at a time actually learned something and began to tinker a little bit > try to create a very small garbage project to raise my confidence > go to 1st interview for junior web app developer > nervous as fuck > they liked my little piece of garbage > got a contract after 1st interview in IT > im now waking…

Busting the myth that eliminating tips and paying a decent wage would cause prices to rise to unaffordable levels (I did the math)

(copied from a comment I made on another post) The average per-person cost at, say, Olive Garden is $20 according to this website, and the average time spent occupying a table is one hour. Assume you have a party of 4. That's an $80 check, and a $16 tip. If you have 6 tables at once, that's $96. Average dining time for a party is one hour, so you're making $98.13/hour (96 in tips plus the legally mandated $2.13 “tipped minimum”). (And, by the way, if 3 of the 6 tables stiff you, you've still made $50.13/hr. But we don't want you to have to depend on tips, and we don't want to have feel obligated.) Your boss pays you $2.13/hour, so for that hour you're making $2.13 from the boss, $5.12 from the tables (that your boss gets 'credit' for having paid you) and $10.88 in net tips. You…

The fact that employees that are understaffed don’t get compensated for filling in multiple job roles

A lot of this pertains to minimum wage jobs. I consider it wage theft if the company is understaffed and causes employees to work multiple jobs in order to fill multiple positions for lack of workers. If this happens at a job, whether employees are out sick or quit altogether, the other employees filling in and doing both their work and the other worker's should get compensated pay because they are now working two jobs at once more than their original job title and job training requirements. They should compensate work that is doubled on the worker. If you run a company and you only pay an employee minimum wage level and expect that employee to fill in the gap for one or more potential employees, your company should be ashamed and lawsuits should be filed against it. For example, an employee was out of work today. I'm a janitor…
