I work in the entertainment industry at a studio. I was hired as a PA (I'm a “part time contractor” but work full time and do all the same things as employees except with no benefits…but that's a separate post). The managers hired a new PA, I noticed that she has more responsibilities and is starting with her own company account, her own laptop, and already is learning/getting access to things that took them months to give me. Today I asked what she makes hourly and it's $25. Literally every other PA there makes $22.50. So in this situation most people would assume the new person must have a lot more experience than me. Actually I'm the one who has a degree relevant to the industry, has worked on set for years, was a PA before this, a whole resume and website dedicated to my work history, while the new…
Weird how they acted like they cared for a couple of months and then said we don’t care anymore
So we recently hired a new function director for the past year and she already caused my immediate boss and another colleague who was working under her to leave within the year she got there. Now it looks like she’s focusing quite a bit of her energy on me. Out of these 10 emails, 8 is directed to me. Is this normal behaviour? Or should I flag this up to HR or her boss? I am only a manager and I don’t even report directly to her. What should I do?
Another U.S.A horror story. I’ve been losing jobs left and right since last year since I’ve been in a bout of serious mental health issues. I’ve been jumping house to house of family and my fiancé is the only one keeping me sane. I’ve been in and out of outpatient/inpatient treatment and been in therapy for a year. Whenever I work 40 hours, after a month, I just shut down. I call out all the time from chronic anxiety. I do my best to control it but it’s been happening for years Better yet I just got denied on my SSDI appeal. So now I have to appeal again, get a lawyer, and most likely have to wait a year with no reliable income at all. My country has left me behind. Corporate America has left me shattered.
Housing Crisis in Phoenix and protesting
It is official there is nothing for under 200K available for purchase, anywhere in the valley. Rent where I live (A studio) is going from 912.00 to 1340.00 a month. Me and my wife both work full time and I am also in the national guard. I would like to know if others are facing a similar situation and if it is time to protest or manifest in any way. I think housing is a basic human need and this would be a very noble cause to fight for that affects all races and cultures.
College Degrees Are BS
When I first got into my career of choice almost 10 years ago now I started to make a realization when applying to jobs. The requirement for a batchelor’s degree would always lower my confidence in getting a callback for the job. I was going to school at the time but instead of skipping over those jobs that required a bachelor’s degree I decided to apply to them instead. I mean, worst they could say was no, right? I realized that the more I would apply the more callbacks and job offerings I would receive, even though I didn’t have a bachelor’s degree. The requirements were put there to weed applicants out. Eventually I dropped out of school entirely and never even received my associate’s degree (I only have a HS diploma). I started an entry level job in my field and started to gather some experience. Over time I…
Requesting a 20,000 raise tomorrow
Wish me luck. My boss is awesome but we both work for the state so I don't know if it can be done. Ive been working less than a year here so that doesn't help. But I just found out I'm being paid 10 dollars less an hour compared to others in my field and I'm in a more specialized position than them. I love this job but damn that's so much less I'm being paid. I can move for lateral pay but an extra 3 months off a year before PTO…
