I work in IT at my local school system, making $12.50/hr. So I got a call for a job offer and accepted the job then texted my two bosses that I was putting in my two weeks. I figured texting them after the call would make it more convenient to know ASAP that I would be quitting. Then one boss calls and yells on the phone at me about how unprofessional it was to put in my two weeks through a text. He works in the technology office whereas I work directly in a two schools, so for me to talk to him face to face I would have had to make a trip to the office 20 minutes away. Apparently I need to be more professional putting in a two weeks for a job that pays less than most fast food places do now? I’ve put in a two…
I met a good person today
Mentioned she used to work in healthcare at a call center. Constantly had to deny people coverage because of “pre existing conditions”🤢. As she was close to quitting, picked up a call about a families son who had a brain tumor and died only a few weeks after diagnosis in the hospital. The bill? Over 2 million dollars. The debt collectors were pushing very hard on them and from what I understood from the story, were threatning to claim their house/belongings. Well this nice lady broke the rules and forgave all that shit for them. She knew she was quitting, and had nothing to lose. She also mentioned that she did that before it was made ILLEGAL to do so. So in other words she did it before she could be held accountable and thrown into a fucking prison cell for trying not to ruin another persons life. I know…
“You’re a representative of the company, even on your off time, so you have to be careful what you post.” Okay then, so are you gonna PAY me to be a representative of the company 24/7 and regulate my behavior even in my personal life? No? Then fuck off! This is a policy that I think is fine in the case of an employee is caught doing illegal stuff or harassing someone or being bigoted, but that’s not how it’s used! People shouldn’t be able to be fired for posting about work struggles on their personal social media. Companies are basically forcing workers to conform to a standard outside of work that they’re not paying them for. Fuck that. Edit: obviously if you have hate speech on your personal social media then that is different. I’m talking about things like posting in support of movements like BLM or calling out…
So the other day we had a big meeting at work where they said that if we get hurt to instead call this number or go to your supervisor and not to call 911. According to them, this makes the paperwork way easier for them. Also I don't have the number, neither do any of my Co workers. Considering the place is remarkably unsafe and I'm getting cut and such on a near daily basis it's a major red flag. Is this even legal? Are there any actions I can take?
Pro-union vs anti-union flyers at Amazon
My old GM definitely doesn’t like me.
The Smiths said it best:
The Balls on Amazon
I just found out they are raising Prime by $2 a month, after posting $14 BILLION in profit last year and spending their resources busting unions and letting people die on the warehouse floor. I tried to text chat with customer service about this, and I ended up having the most dystopian conversation with a guy who was not allowed to say anything that wasn't off-script (if it even was a human at all.) He actually tried to tell me that it was due to “rising wages”. The world is burning and nobody cares.
