How to find out if you signed a noncompete?

one of my friends was laid off from an apprenticeship program after the company lost its contract in our city. they offered him a traveling position but he wasn't interested. now it's been like 4 months and he can't find another job but the company his previous employer had a contract with just posted positions remarkably similar to what he had been doing with them and he'd love to apply but he thinks he might have signed a noncompete during onboarding….is there any way to check if he did and what the conditions are? he's really been struggling since losing the job and there's not many decent opportunities in our area (unless you want to make $8.50/hr at long john silvers). he liked the work he was doing and was good st it but wasn't interested in picking up his life and moving every few months until his apprenticeship was…
