Can’t afford to work
I drive about 35-40 minutes to work everyday. I can't afford the job because gas is going up and the “promotion” won't take effect until 6 months after I start the new job. No benefits, no Healthcare, nothing. I can't afford to do what I need to survive. Called in sick today and I'm applying to as many jobs as possible. I was hired on by a staffing agency so my time card goes to them and I have some benefits through them but my boss won't let me take time off for appointments. After my 3 months is up with the staffing agency I interview again for my current job, I'll be employed by that company. 0 benefits. I can't stand it.
Hey all, I’m looking for some advice on the legality of what my employer has been doing. They have added me to work schedules the night before the scheduled shift. This is when they have already send out the full schedule the week before. It happened again last night and it’s the 3rd time for me, (my coworkers are just used to it now and don’t put up a fight). Isn’t there a minimum amount of time they need to give to notify me of changes to the schedule? I make plans and then see they scheduled me the night before my shift. I want to make sure if I don’t show up there won’t be repercussions for me. I am located in New Mexico. Thanks in advance!

Last week I go to McDonald's and ask for a large cup of water with my large meal and they say they literally cannot do that. There's no way whatsoever for them to give me a large cup of ice water. I paid for a large meal which includes a large drink, They can fill it with Coca-Cola, Sprite, whatever. But they stated that it is apparently not humanly possible for them to pick up a large cup and fill it with some water. They also don't like to let you use contactless payments. Some McDonald's have them where they pull out this really long extendable rod with a card reader at the end so you can just tap your card on top of it. Most McDonald's require you to literally give them your card or your entire phone if you are using Google Pay or something like that. Very…
I publicly shamed an old manager on LinkedIn and Twitter, who now works at a Bank as an account manager that he was a complete asshat, miserable c**t, when I worked for him. He reported me, but my post is still there. A former employee of his retweeted. Context: 20 years ago I was a new graduate working for a company building software. Worked 9-5, on 18K salary a year. I found out that the other grads got 26K, there were no skill differences, it turns out that I was the last guy in the recruitment campaign, so he thought he would lower the base salary. He got pissed off with me asking for a raise. I didn't know about my rights back then, but he made me come in during evening and weekends to fix bugs. Unpaid, explaining that he didn't hire “bankers” whatever that means. I must have…
I've never worked for a boss like this before I started working here. He literally hoards the toilet paper upstairs and there's like 15 of us downstairs that share a bathroom and everytime we need toilet paper we have to go upstairs and ask him for it. He only gives us 2 rolls at a time. Then gets pissy when we have to ask him for it all the time. He apparently thinks people will steal the toilet paper which is ridiculous. That isn't the only thing though. When we ask for general office supplies for our office he will give us like ten paperclips or 1 stack of staples instead of giving us a box when he has tons for himself. He also keeps the copy paper in his office so we have to go upstairs and ask for paper when we need it which is often. He calls…
How you know it sucks to work somewhere.
happy update from my new job
I haven't even started my new job yet and I just received an update telling me that my start date has been pushed back, I'll be starting 1 week later 5 paid days off, not taken out of my holiday just because the manager wanted me to have some time off before starting. The message just said it was going to be an intense first 2 weeks so have a good break before my first day. Along with the email there was a voucher for a local spa treatment to be booked anytime during the week off. It's part of a welcome pack that everyone gets. The whole attitude and mentality sounds too good to be true, I just hope it's the same after I've started working there.
