If you're not employing this leadership style when managing people, you don't need to be in that position and that's why you're struggling to find and/or retain talent. If this is a “family” then treat me like a good family member would: take care of needs, listen to concerns, and defend the employee from threats. A leader who serves (takes care) his employees and ensures they have the proper tools to do their job. This is the easiest form of leadership in my opinion. You don't need to be smart, you don't have to take the initiative, and you do not need to be loud. All the leader has to do is give direction, ask for help (not demand it), and take the time to stop operations to help an employee. This is the method that I utilize at work and all the employees come to me with their questions,…
Overworked and burnt out
Currently at the moment I’m trying to pay for upcoming online classes in April and hopefully save up for a new camera but is it worth this much torture? I just started working in the Kroger bakery department over a month ago and I’m already strongly considering switching to another department. I (F21) work 8 1/2 hour shifts almost every day, 40 hours a week. According to my schedule, I am the only person they have scheduled second shift which means I’m back here all by myself baking off pre-made frozen cookie dough, pies, taking cake orders, packaging and labelling ALL the cookies, writing on cakes and finally closing with no assistance for about more than half of my shift. At first, my family tried to sugarcoat (no pun intended) the situation and act like they’re giving me soo much responsibility but no it’s just bcus they don’t have enough…
I do online surveys through my ohone and work computer. Most only pay $.25 to $1, but they only take a few minutes. Easy to do between helping customers, in the toilet, or just walking around your place of work. Get paid while you get paid.
Monday- on point, get things done. Decent attitude Tuesday- meh, sucks but still getting it done Wednesday- takes a turn. Every week. Just watching the clock all day. Thursday- I’m done. No interest, no energy left. Mood gets dark and I’d take an injury rather than be here Friday- zero interest, out of gas mentally and physically. My attitude is shit and I’ll start saying random shit I should keep to myself cause it’ll get me fired. At least twice a month I just leave at lunch cause I can’t take it anymore.
…And she said “okay”. No questions asked, no hmmm and hawing about it. She trusts that I have a good reason and will still get all my work done in a timely manner. It was an amazing feeling to realize that I have landed a job and boss that allows me to control my own life like that.
I work at a restaurant. Our schedules are made a couple of weeks in advance, but the software they use only shows us our start time, not our out time. The general manager prefers tell us what time she “hopes to let us go” once we’re already at work for the day. My coworkers seem to have accepted the system, but I find it infuriating and frankly demeaning. It makes it difficult to plan the rest of my life outside of work. I’ve voiced my concerns, but she doesn’t seem to care. I’ve never heard of a workplace doing this, is it the norm for anyone else?
I just got a call from a recruiter for a minimum wage job and she asked me if I would be ok with the pay. What the hell do they expect me to say? I desperately need work and I don't think saying “No, I actually don't think it's ok” is gonna land me the job. I hate feeling this powerless. Just for reference it's a position in the UK.
Title kind of says it all. I’m currently job searching and it seems like there’s some sort of test or assessment needed to apply for any job. I can understand if it’s a comprehensive test to see if people know their stuff. But I feel like even those are a waste of time for people who actually studied in those fields and have degrees. And if the test is so easy that any average joe could pass, then why have it at all and have such a high barrier to entry? This is clearly something that can be trained/taught on the job. But what really grinds my gears are those stupid fucking personality tests that employers want you to take so they can see if you’re a good fit for the company. You can’t pass or fail it, but there’s clearly an expected result, so that first part is nonsense.…
