To make it worse these texts not only come at all times of the day, but especially after hours. Boomer boss who uses work as an escape from his wife and kid that hate him. All he does is think about work, and at any given moment, when he has an idea, has to impulsively send a text so his highness doesn’t “forget.” Texting is such an unprofessional way to communicate with your employees. Cell phone use has always been justified to be used “in case of emergencies.” Texts with simple instructions or as a response to an email that could have easily waited until the next day, is not a fucking emergency. I really hope this bill in Ontario is legislated: https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6224826 If for every 30 sec text or call my boss made to me after hours, would sanction him to pay me for 3 hours, I would legit…
Well that was weird
21f here, and I just the shortest and sourest interview in my life a couple hours ago at a new cafe in town looking for an extra cook. Just a part time job to make up for the huge dent in my bank account after moving towns for school. My family owns multiple successful restaurants where I worked during my youth (weird nepotism, I was extremely overworked. Was doing 50+hr weeks at only 16) , and have been in many more for the past six years. In short, I have some experience in the kitchen. You’d think that would be wanted in an up and coming restaurant, right ? Apparently not! So after waiting an extra 10 minutes for the manager to come out (the restaurant was empty), I was met by an older woman who just stared at me. No mask either, which is an instant red flag in…
I'm tired of seeing this in so many job postings. They require that you have a bachelor's degree but with no specific field mentioned. They don't care what your degree is in, just that you have one. Maybe it's so they can get someone in enough debt to keep them obedient and afraid to quit. I'm considering lying to employers and telling them I have a degree in some inane field that doesn't apply to the job at all just to see how they react. “Oh you require a bachelor's degree for this job as a customer service rep? You're in luck! I have a degree in Astrobiology!”
Still haven’t received a response.
I work in the tech industry, software Dev and I heard this today “The team is performing well but is getting a little too comfortable with the tasks we need to get them out of the comfort zone.” What's the objective here? Uncomfortable team? I was so triggered hearing this I had to share it somewhere. The team is PREFORMING WELL, and when we checked the project status, they were ahead of schedule. Why fuck up the dynamic?
internships are slave labor
I’m (20f) currently in my sophomore year of undergraduate school (BS marine biology) and am looking for internships. My advisor stressed to me not to take any internship that isn’t paid, and as I’ve been searching I’ve found that a paid internship is extremely rare. Any internship I’ve found in the work I’m especially interested in requires relocation WITHOUT providing housing, 40 hours per week minimum, and no hourly or stipend pay. How can this be legal? It’s not idle desk work either it’s physical labor and specialized lab and field work skills. It’s so discouraging because to get any experience in my field I need to somehow pay for a place to live plus gas and food just to work for free full time. I just needed to rant about it because who is actually doing these internships? It’s certainly not the students who pay for their own school…
