I work for a CA startup and earn about $300k/yr. A significant portion is RSUs and the company works me to the bone. Long hours and the occasional Saturday feature deploy is needed. But I am learning a lot. I am single and looking for a change of scenery. I applied to a UK company in my field in London. They will pay for my flight and offer 7 weeks paid vacation. It’s a code maintenance role, so much more laid back. Problem is that it is a quarter the salary. It’s been a dream to live in London, but I am concerned of the low salary and that I won’t be able to live comfortably. Thoughts?
Online Survey for Minimum Wage Workers
Hello everyone! I've been lurking on this sub for a while and thought that this community would be perfect to help me with my research. I'm currently a student at Northeastern Illinois University and for one of my classes I'm conducting a research project which is meant to survey minimum wage workers' attitudes about their work during the covid-19 pandemic. The survey itself is really short (only 5 questions) and should only take about 5-10mins to fill out. All responses are anonymous and no personally identifying information will be recorded. For the purpose of this study I am asking that no one under the age of 18 participate, and unfortunately this project is only for Minimum Wage Workers within the United States. BUT if you do not live & work within the U.S. I'd still love to hear about your experiences in the comments. At the end of the survey…
Unemployment extension?
Hello! I have 2 weeks of unemployment left in Ohio. I am in a loophole where I do not have to do work search activities because I was enrolled in school prior to termination. I'm taking very hard classes this semester and will struggle to work part time while attended. (Yes I know many do it. I'm barely getting by without work commitments) Is there any loopholes for an extension to get me through the rest of this semester?
Lies, deception and an elaborate troll
I need help. I'm stuck and agitated and unsure of what to do. I am currently unemployed after a hiatus of travel. I put my resume out there and a recruiting agency from India named IDC technologies picked it up and found me what looked like a good paying job. I signed paperwork with them as early as Feb 8 and got a job offer the 16th. So far I have not started. Over the past three weeks they have claimed there is “an ID issue” as well as “the bg and sn are not going cohesively together” and have been dismissed daily as I call asking after the job. I went to visit the company I was going to be working for and they told me they have not received any information about me to bring me on board, despite being told that they were the ones having the…
What should I do for my last day?
Ok, so here’s the deal, my current job is complete shit, I have a stupid schedule, I’m underpaid and I’m under constant pressure to do shoddy work faster. Meanwhile, the managers are constantly making rule changes and inventing new ways to get us in trouble. Anyway I digress, I just got hired for a new and much better job so my last day here is tomorrow. For the life of me, I can’t think of a good reason to show up tomorrow, except for my pay. So how would you go about leaving a garbage job?
I’m from Norway, and I’ve been following this sub for a few months. I really like reading your stories, and witnessing the change that is happening to some of your workplaces. I’m a student, and I deliver pizza every other weekend. I make about $19 an hour. If I work on the evening, $1.50 is added on top of that. $2 on the weekends. If both on the evening and on the weekend, they stack. Tipping is not really a thing in Norway, but I do actually get about $8 every shift. 10% goes to the cook, and 30% for taxes. Working for this pizza place, I’ve gained insight in what they make a day, and let me tell you, the shop makes A LOT of money. It is a very popular pizza franchise here in Norway, and I’d say it’s probably the most expensive place you can order from…
Employee appreciation socks
I applied at FedEx Supply chain as an Inventory Control Clerk. I got an email to schedule an interview. The email says that they are having open interviews every Wednesday. My next day off happened to be a Wed. But instead of just showing up for the open interviews I schedule one for Wed. noon. I wake up early, fix myself up, print copies of my resume and head out. Its about an hour drive with traffic. I get there and they have no idea who I am. No interviews were happening that day. You know, the day that was supposed to be open interviews and the day that I scheduled one. They take my name and number and say that someone will call me. No thanks. I'm half tempted to send them an invoice for time and gas wasted (It just went up to about $4 per gallon where…
Toxic manager traits
One that I discovered recently is the old “oh my good. I get so much vacation I could never use it” that inevitably turns into neither should you. All of these companies keep talking about their benefits (if your lucky enough to get them at all) but for a lot of them getting the time off is like pulling teeth!
