This bunch of amoral bastards, just sacked all their staff with immediate effect so they can replace them with non-UK agency staff. Hoping the government might actually step in, but I doubt it. The real shame here is that seafarers basically have 0 rights in UK employment law. https://twitter.com/bbcsoutheast/status/1504450370675908608
Let me know if it’s any good or should I ditch the idea? Review: “I’ve been doing the same thing every day for almost a year. I only learned the basic platform and that’s about it, there’s little to no training. Management is not good, a lot of unnecessary stress, jobs being handed to people who aren’t really responsible for and there’s no employee-management relationship, zero communication between department managers. Mostly everyone looks after themselves and points fingers when fault is due. The lack of teamwork and communication really makes it difficult to enjoy. There’s rarely any teamwork, direction or job assignments coming from the department manager. There’s no actual hard part to the job, but I would say that dealing with the managers and coworkers could be harsh on the day to day basis. To be really honest, the best parts of the job as of this moment are…
“We can’t afford to cover inflation”
So the company i work for has this joke where people get to ask questions to the management and they respond. It's suppose to make us feel heard….Anyways, some of the were related to inflation, are they going to properly cover it, do we get raises (and no, they don't pay utilities for people who work from home). The asnwers was…big surprise…”no..we can't afford to do that'. A few days later we all get an email about how well the company is doing and the record profits that we got thanking us for the hard work. Well….i'm fucking off elsewhere ….
28F, working as a Waxologist, getting paid hourly and I am so sick of the idea of working 40-44 hours per week and also weekends. I used to work 2 jobs, 6 days or 7 days a week, aiming for FIRE. To archive my financial goal, I am also killing myself mentally and physically. Last week, I was admitted to ED at mid-night and l laid there in pain for 7 hours without any care given. ( yes, the Ontario healthcare system sucks and please dont say “as it's free” as your argument). This experience made me question ” why the hell this is the norm?” Why do we have to work this much just to survive? Why are we so scared to take a day off even though we feel like shit? Why do we have to be rich in money to be successful? why do we have to…
Don’t threaten my income.
So I worked at a multibillion dollar logistics firm for 4+ years, over 13 years experience in the field between the military and private sector. 2 years in I was negotiating for a promotion after bringing in $536k profit for the company, I got a title promotion and a 5800 raise. I always talk about compensation with my coworkers because if we’re all doing the same shit then we should get around the same pay. So we’re talking and 1 guy was making 7k more than me ( nbd, he negotiated when he started). Fast forward to a few months ago I was up for another promotion where they offered me a $1900 raise for significantly more responsibility. Hard decline on that so I started deep diving on the company share drive and buried in other unrelated pages was a PowerPoint for managers and leadership for how to talk employees…
My company is one of those “nobody ever gets a 5” and “once every 32 years you'll see someone get a 4.” So basically you get a 3 if you're doing fine or a 2 if you are underperforming. Why not just make the scale 1-3 then? Best part is that a 5 only get a 0.5% additional yearly increase. The unachievable, incredible review is another half percent? Excuse me while I laugh uncontrollably. They mean nothing for promotions since even a 2 can get promoted if the boss sends them through. They mean nothing for professional growth either since all of the feedback is empty words. It's almost like they're justifying peoples' jobs in HR. What a waste.
