Hey guys for anyone reading this. This subreddit has changed my outlook on work life style balance, and I've came to the conclusion that the work life style balance is more important than just mindlessly working your guts out for nothing, and not being productive. From my understanding, of this subreddit it's not anti-work in the sense that everyone should sit around, and do nothing/be lazy. Personally speaking, I'll explain why, I support this cause, and my background as an blue collar conservative and want to get out of construction/skilled trades, and head towards a job, I actually like doing that's not gonna leave permanently disabled for the rest of my life. Not saying, construction is terrible, or bad. But, majority of the time it's a rather short career life in carpentry being on the tools itself. By the time you reach 30-35 it's guaranteed you will probably have permanent…
Could I just vent a bit?
We're two years into a pandemic, the effects of climate change are inescapable, there's armed conflicts around the globe, and a friend of mine had to bury her daughter last week from a fentanyl overdose. But I'm still here, running my little shop in a dystopian fucking nightmare, because, somehow, the alternative is worse. I can't close for a day without fucking over three other people, and it's not like my employees are realistically dealing with any less, so I can't call anyone for a shift. There's nowhere to pivot to, no one to lean on, nothing to hope for and no end in fucking sight. I would hope that maybe global catastrophes and looming war would help put life in perspective, but alas, no. In just the past 72 hours I have had a customer throw a tantrum at one of my employees about being asked to wear a…
You Are All Replaceable
Hey all, alt account for safety but just needed to vent a little. Today my store, big box retail, had the end of it's first week with our new store director. This man has been in the industry for a while but is new to OUR company and how we do things. He has spent the week critiquing every little thing around the store, changing things to his liking etc etc. Today in our before store meeting, he decided to let us know that in his eyes we are ALL replaceable and that he could have someone in our places within a week. He said this, to a store staffed by some weeks old employees, and some decades old employees. We all, obviously, took this as an extremely rude comment to make and highly inappropriate of a new manager to the company. Anyway, just wanted to vent and hear thoughts…
Not sure if that makes any sense but the CCM (we’re in the US) reviews the hours for all the supervisors. At the moment we have unlimited overtime or there are just some instances where we chose not to take a lunch for whatever reason and unless we email her that we didn’t take a lunch she will automatically deduct thirty minutes from our time. I have always found this to be wildly unfair. I think it should be the other way around, she should be asking us before time is deducted. There are instances where we do forget to time clock but I feel like it is not enough to justify her doing so. I want to take it up with either HR or even the owners but since she’s been doing it the past six years I’ve worked here I want a solid argument. What do I do?
