Unknowingly training in a replacement

At the place I work there is someone in another department who is going to be fired. She is being kept on while she trains in her replacement. I'm not supposed to know this. I don't know how to warn her and don't trust her enough not to tell. We are in a right to work state so she will have absolutely no recourse. She isn't the greatest employee but it's still a shady thing.

no, thanks.

A while ago, I was asked to apply for a head position, I got to the final couple and sadly didn't get the gig. I moved forward. Then, their secondary position came up. I applied and received a call from the hiring person wanting to chat. We did and they let me know they were surprised and that the role has historically been more junior but they'd like to see where this goes. I asked the salary expectations. They came in $20K lower than my salary. I let them know and negotiated because there were other perks and the role would be more interesting. They said they'd offer me the job that day. Then I was asked to come for an interview by HR. Confused I agreed. I interviewed and rocked it. Did their stupid tests and showed them my strengths. They say they'll be in touch in a week.…

Manager is upset with me for my coworkers mistake and is threatening to fire me. I told him to bring it.

If these kind of anti work venting posts aren't allowed here, then I'm sorry please remove it. I'm just really disheartened atm My coworker asked to take my shift today. This is my second job so I said sure, that's cool. Then I get a call for my boss saying “yeah she was already on the schedule tonight. I need you to work.” I told him I'm sorry but I had no idea that was the case. I ran it by a manager and they said it was fine. “Well you're the one who is supposed to make sure everything is okay.” I checked with a manager, they said it was all good, and the coworker asked for this shift specifically. Why would I assume I still needed to check the schedule? He said “fine, but I still need you in.” I told him I had already had a beer,…

I went for a job interview today knowing I didn’t need it or really want it.

I answered all their bullshit stock questions with honest answers. Went off on a couple of tirades about random shit, to the point they looked uncomfortable and just wanted to ask the next question. When they asked me “What do you know about – INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE” I said I knew absolutely nothing and had no idea what they did or the role I was applying for. Them “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” Me “Hopefully alive, the economy is fucked.” They asked me what kind of money I was after I said “As much as possible”. We need to do a drug and alcohol test…. I failed the drug screen and the breath test cos I blazed up the night before and I went to the pub before the interview and had a few jugs and a pizza. I got the fucking job and they just…

“We are a non-profit” so that’s why we can’t pay you more

I met with management for a 90-day review and for my concerns over the pay being low for the position. I have the title of music instructor but am expected to work at a director. I started a position under the guise of being just a music instructor, but it actually is a role for tutoring children, being a personal mentor to at least 5 and do 10 forms a week (2 per kid), helping with grants, write my own lesson plans, do monthly reports, organize events, music production, shop for department items (using my own sales pipeline), on top of music instruction etc. In the meeting: I was told that this is a non-profit and that I should understand that and I should expect to wear different hats and should be patient. I don't get full-time hours, just the legally allowed amount under (32). I have a bachelor's degree…

Some good changes my boss is pushing…

For reference I work in corporate retail Human resources. The company had dialogue about staffing concerns across the board. My boss is a firm believer if you pay proper and treat people like an actual human being, you prevent turn over. I asked how many people actually fail drug test. For 2021 it was about 150 applicants. And surprise marijuana was the #1 reason we declined an applicant. My boss said who cares if someone lights up during their off time. She said we don't decline people who get drunk during off hours. So we no longer drug test. Unless you report to work in an unfit condition. Next was background checks. Before, everything was an auto decline for any convictions/felony. Now its 100% case by case and we only go back 3 years. Felons are now considered depending on the specifics of the crime. Sexual assault/sexual predators are the…

There’s a bulletin board at my work for internal job postings, tons of people are leaving, which means the people left end up doing two jobs for no extra pay. This is the most I’ve ever seen.

Use this before negotiating salary

Hey, HR person here. Here are the free resources my company uses to calculate pay range. Advocate for the pay you deserve. If any other HR people were trained differently, please share. Use the links below to find the appropriate pay ranges for your job title. I wish it included more roles but these are the only resources I have available. Example: You find out the starting salary for your role is $50,000 based on those links. Take the salary amount and multiple it by the cost of living percentage listed on the Robert Half pdf. Say you live in San Francisco. It’s listed as +41%. Your salary should be $50,000 x 1.41 = $70,500 For every year of outside experience, multiply that adjusted salary by 3%. For every 2 years of internal experience, add 3%. If you have 2 years of outside experience, do $70,500 x 1.06 = $74,730.…
