On this subreddit I see many posts related to minimum wages and compulsory tipping for those in the hospitality industry. What I have gathered is, these posts are mostly from US. So, sharing an opinion here and would request you to share your views on it. What if you stop tipping… absolutely? Hospitality worker of US for generations are an exploited lot. Definitely the people posting their stories are not here for karma farming. It sounds like a genuine and really big problem. Many justify tipping saying that's how the tips ensure the workers survive. But isn't 3 generations of over exploited workers enough to convince you guys that tips don't help, rather they perpetuate the exploitation. Let the owners pay real wages.
How do you know when to quit your job?
I know it's a privilege to even have a decent job at this point with all that's happening to the economy and the world but lately I've been so sick to function properly at my role. I've been in this job for less than a year and already developed anxiety on top of having bipolar disorder because of the workload and demands. I don't know what to do.
I just got paid yesterday, and I made about 540 bucks for like 3 weeks of working. I only make 11 an hour. I asked for just 12 when I started and he said he could do 11.50 then when he calls me he says he talked to the owner and could only do 11. The thing is I'm on drug court and had to get this job, and I think they knew that (I had to tell them I was on drug court when they interviewed me)and used it as an advantage to low-ball me. Yesterday was the busiest day I ever had and today was even busier. The thing is it's a pizza place, and I'm the only insider who isn't a manager (the rest are drivers). I imagine this is because it's such shit pay and atleast if you're a driver you get more tips. But it's…
UNPOPULAR OPINION Ageism Rant
Why is it that so many people talk about ageism in the workplace only as it relates to people who are in their 40s and up, when SO many 20 somethings right now are driven, technologically advanced and savvy, self-learning, can-do, educated, critical thinkers who want nothing but to off themselves because they're not the 40 year old Directors who laugh amongst themselves at Thundercats references in the workplace and ostracize others for their AGE for having the energy to do things better. I've seen so much sneering at my age group who are not even able to afford a damn parking ticket in a corporate world that just expects you to suck it up and wash your manager's balls. I thought skill and collaboration meant something. Unpopular opinion but I hope something blows up this stupid corporate structure top to bottom, more than people just quitting and going remote.…
Hello everyone, I am posting to ask for help. I have been threatened by the CEO of my company. I work for a government sub contractor of the FAA. He told me in no uncertain terms, that I was not to talk about salary to anyone, with a very heavy implied threat. Here is the whole story: Backgroud: I am a software developer who works on the Air Traffic System. This is the FAA NAS, and I am being paid 80K a year. I found out that all of my co-workers are getting paid 110k or more, and I have the same years of experience as them (10+). I bring very solid industry knowledge and skill to the table, and I am loved by my team at the FAA. I have been a very effective employee at this position and it is the absolute best I…
Psycho coworkers
Have to go back to the office in April. For about 3 years I forcibly had lunch with obnoxious coworkers who would talk bad about and actively seek to ruin a professional reputation if you didn’t join them for lunch. Ughh hope I can find a 100% remote job before April because I’m not having lunch and wasting hours of my day on this BS ever again.
