Wage complications

I work as a sales associate in California for a mega corporation, specifically their retail division. My conundrum here is I was earning $14 an hour till December of last year. The regional manager then “gave” me a dollar raise out of “generosity” (seriously that’s how my manager told me.) when I asked if this is separate from the $15 dollar minimum wage that would take effect Jan 1st, my manager didn’t make a comment (It wasn’t separate). Another, similar problem I have is that sales associates at other store locations within the same shopping malls (there’s 3 separate malls all within the walking distance of each other), make $2 dollars an hour more than me, despite the fact I routinely outsell them and have worked for the company longer than them. Every time I ask, It gets brushed aside. I’d name the company but no one names theirs so…

Union is Employers pet

Since October last year our contracts have been discussed between employer and union. Today we hear that there still is no progress and they are starting the blame game. Pointing fingers at each other while costs soar, employer makes much more profit than before. We are forced to join the union by our employer and it seems more like they are just an entity to which my employer can blame for stagnation.

Are there any subs that are dedicated to busting or finding ways around the credit/credit score/FICO model?

I’m at a loss for where to go with this subject. I kept hitting dead ends, so starting in the more left leaning subs. This isn’t directly antiwork, but I think it has a tie, since almost 50% of employers use credit checks as part of background screening. Not to mention almost all rental housing utilizes credit scores to establish housing worthiness. Because I’ve already had this conversation in a circle with a few left leaning people already: I get the original intent was to stop redlining. But then again the argument that credit scores are meant to be completely demographically unbiased & based only on your personal responsibility/reliability hasn’t been valid for over 40 years. They may stop banks from denying loans directly based on race, but since it’s using class related data scores often end up having the same effect. The scoring models themselves seem heavily biased toward…

Do we do culture? Like pro-worker, anti-establishment, anti-corporation music, art, literature?

Not sure I can post that kind of stuff here. It's mostly retweet by screenshot and some (of which are great) articles. Just wondering what you think?

Unions… What have they done for you?

I'm wondering if anyone could share the kinds of things their union negotiated for them to inspire people who are unionizing, or going into negotiations soon, or those who are in a union and wanting to create some change.

ONE day of remote work?

I will be needing one day of remote work in a few months (on a Friday) for my new job. The difficulty is I also plan on calling in sick on the following Monday. Its very very likely that we will be back to being in person by then. What are some good excuses to request for just one day of remote work that sounds believable? (esp since I'll be calling out sick that Monday)

wanna know how much my work is working me?

I only get one day off, and my schedule goes through what i call “schedule whiplash” where one day i do the morning shift and then The next day i do the afternoon shift and it goes back and forth and then will flip. I am so drained that on one of these shifts. I fell asleep on the toilet. Fuck this job. I just want a fucking consistent schedule.

Help! New employer lying about timecard?!?

My boyfriend’s timecard was supposed to be sent to his employer via email before 12 pm today. He sent it at 6 am. His employer responded that they didn’t receive it until 8 pm! Because it’s “late” he wont be paid until the next cycle. The kicker- the employer’s own email response seems to show they are replying to an email they received at 9 am their time (they’re 3 hours ahead of us). Is this proof enough that they’re lying? It seems super shady! Is anyone out there familiar enough with this kind of thing to help us out?
