As titles states. I work in an SEMH* School, so we deal with 11-16 year old that present very challenging behaviours and can be extremely violent. We've been struggling with recruitment, as a result we've been using agencies to provide staff. We had an experienced person join us that was not only great at the job, but also fantastic with the kids. He also had a cultural background that we've not got in the team and resonated with the students. In a nutshell, he gave us exactly what we needed and was resilient enough to manage the job. His contract was coming up to expire. No one from SLT spoke to him. One of our middle leaders facilitated a meeting, my colleague asked for Market Rate, they offered the bottom rate. He said he couldn't accept it. They said take it or leave it. Today would have been his final…
Less productive in the office
I am less productive since returning back to the office because my desk is in a high traffic area and everyone stops to ask me questions, shoot the shit, or whatever. I was in a virtual meeting the other day (headphones on) and a fellow employee came to my desk, waved at me, just to say that she spilled some coffee and asked if I could call custodial care… I had a sign on my desk that clearly said “in a meeting, do not disturb”. Does anyone else seem less productive since returning to the office?
Originally posted on /trueoffmychest and was getting downvoted for whatever reason, lol. So a year ago I saw a government job I thought was a very good fit for me and decided to apply. I messaged the supervisor and was told “Sorry, I know the website says the application is still available, but it actually closed yesterday. You have to wait an entire year.” Wait a year I did. Obviously I didn't stop myself from applying to other jobs, but yeah. Anyways, the other day I was told that I'd have to take an “exam” prior to applying to the job. So I create an account, log in, and apparently was answering all these questions without knowing what I was answering was considered the “exam.” It was a little over 100 stupid questions that all said only to check if I've performed an activity at work (school wasn't allowed). …
I work for a publicly traded company. Our ceo wants us all back in the office three days a week. Hell no. I'm asking our Director of HR for a position reclassification to remote and to formally request it. Let them fire me or pay me off to leave if they say no. The policy was developed arbitrarily and capriciously without any formal communication to staff or appeal policy being presented.
And here we are, prices are going up but wages remain the same.
That’s rough…
PRORATED “cost of living” adjustment
I am a project manager at a startup near Boston MA, in biotech. I joined in Q2 2021. This year, I was rated 4.85/5 on my annual review. I singlehandedly built systems fo capture project metrics, sales cycle metrics, any metric you could dream of. I drove our projects to success all year. I hit every one of my personal goals. I’m consistently told how wonderful my work is, how lucky they are to have me, how they couldn’t do their work without me. This past Monday, I found out that cost of living adjustments (COLA) were going to be 5% for everyone in the company. Not too shabby, when we see 1-3% at some companies. Ok. I naively also thought there would be raises for those of us who exceeded expectations. BUT NO. Just the blanket COLA. Which, today, I found out that they had the audacity to PRO…
I think this community will understand. I live in the U.S., told my employer during the interview that, “I already have a job I can stay at, they have incredible work/life balance, and that is an important thing to me. Is that something you can offer if I take this job?” He told me, “Yes, honestly I don't think I've worked more than 50 hours any week since I got here.” I took the job. Fast forward 5 months. My boss is ALWAYS on until like 10pm. We hired a guy below him and above me who is often in at 8AM and leaves around 7PM. There always seems to be an emergency. I tried to “kick it up” and work longer for a couple weeks, but I quickly realized it's always “emergency time” and that will never stop, so I started going home at 42.5 hours every week regardless…
