I got into an argument with a coworker just now because I refuse to accept tasks that involve me tabling or leaving my formal office to advertise our programs alongside some other tasks related to driving. First, it’s not in my job description. I just work the front desk and do day to day clerical work. Second, I’m one of the only two non salaried employees in this office. I don’t receive any benefits and only make $17/hr. This office wouldn’t even reimburse me on gas if they needed me to go somewhere.I’m not going to take on more responsibility if it’s not reflected in my compensation.
Health insurance company rant
My job is software development for a regional health insurance company, it pays fine and the benefits are fine, honestly for that stuff I'm fairly lucky. Personally, I'm doing okay. But it really does drain me working for the bad guys, especially because they're so blatant about it. This is the week of our quarterly meetings, the first one I went to was about our PAC, which I was ignorant about what it was, it is our Political Action Committee. Also read as our lobbying department. We were talked to about how we “support candidates on both sides” and “educate the policy makers”, educating by giving them money to support our cause. Our cause, of course, being blocking public health insurance. Of course a health insurance company is going to lobby against that, but to just be so open telling us about it seemed strange. Then came the best part.…
As the title states. I'm an (M) working as a chef for a meal prep company. Their main office is located in a different country and since they don't have daylight savings like in the US, their meeting run late for me and early for them. I pick up my 7 month son from the sitters at 3pm. And they want me to attend the meeting at 3:30pm which before use to be at 2:15pm a few weeks ago. And they refused to move it and come earlier over there and want me to stay later but I can't. Conversation went something like this Secretary: Are you joining the meeting? Me: No I can't I have my son. I pick him up at 3pm Secretary: Well put him down in another room and join the meeting Me: When I get home, I change him and feed him and he wants…
Feeling good but kinda bad also, I use to be such a loyal employee and took way too much shit for years. Any words of encouragement?
because I took away my opportunity to tell my sh*t boss to stick it where the sun don’t shine.
What it means to be hourly
Ok so I do enjoy my job and the people about 80% of the time. However they don’t seem to understand that hourly means when I’m clocked out and gone I’m gone. Heck I’ve informed my bosses and those who work under me I’m taking a day off. I told them all a month ago with regular reminders. Now that the day is getting closer they are all like “ok well if anything goes wrong we will call you” I told them I wouldn’t answer and they all acted shocked. Yes I am a supervisor but here’s some things they ought to know. 1. I am paid by the hour. Meaning once I’m clocked out I’m done. 2. I am taking a day off I requested and had approved a month ago. 3. I am using pto to take this day off. 4. The main reason I’m doing this is…
