I’ll be putting my notice in shortly to a job that was just a part time gig but I want to add a little bit of spice to it. All ideas welcome
Same buddy, same.
A story so common to you all, long but familiar I'm sure. This happened last year but I think now is time to share my story. I was with the company for 3 years. I had always made it clear from day one that I would like a consistent schedule and I would like for my days off to be in a row. I requested that I would only work no more than 25 hours a week. It was a retail sales job so it's exhausting for me while I was in college. This company paid exactly minimum wage, was a metric driven environment however there was no payout for the high sales… Unless you count the amount of hours that you get on your schedule for high sales. The better your sales the more hours you got. I was consistently the #1 on sales so automatically the boss would…
Metrics are bullshit
I work as a logistics associate at Harbor Freight, originally I enjoyed being here. It's close enough that I can walk, part time so I have more free time, semi decent pay. When I originally started last year they were pretty chill about meeting specific metrics goals, they understood It's a small town and that you can't sell the customer on everything, they just wanted you to try and give you suggestions that might help. Idk if corporate is coming down on the stores or what but they are now up our asses about every metric to the point they have suggested lying to customers in order to increase email capture during point of sale and are now timing our replenishment(restocking) by writing down when we start and when we finish. I will never understand the insane obsession that metrics have to always go up, especially in small town. Eventually…
I shit you not, they fired me and posted on indeed with the same job but changed it to 'digital marketing trainee'. These people have zero experience training anyone in digital marketing. If I'm allowed to post the indeed link please can we get a mass report of the listing going? They're absolute cowboys taking advantage of people's good faith. I did a BUNCH of work for them thinking we were going to grow the business and that I was going to run my own department etc (something I've really wanted to do for a couple years now) so I left my job for these guys and now I'm out of a job lol. Fuck it, it's Panda Media Productions in Brighouse UK on indeed, fill your boots. They're a 'small family company' that just loves scalping people because it's much easier than doing the work themselves.
Different types of growth mindsets…
I'm almost 33 years old, I have a BA and a MA, will start a new job in september for around 40 000 euros (45 000 dollars, although if I was living in the USA it would probably be closer to something like 70k on average for the same type of job comparatively, which means I'm not doing too bad), and I'll never be able to buy a house in an attractive city: Buying a 95 sqm appartment where I live (Lyon, second economic city of France) would cost me 800 000 dollars. So let's not even talk about buying a house. The only hope I have is an extremely cynical one, which I loathe: my father happens to be wealthy (owning a home of 1 250 000 dollars house and a 780 000 dollars appartment, plus he's got some money), and I'm supposed to inherit half of that with…
