Apparently in the 60s a bunch of workers in Britain were convinced to work an extra unpaid half hour for the economy. Just why? wiki article on it
I’ve been working in the front at a small (less than 15 employees) medical practice for about 1.5 years. Since I started, it has increasingly become toxic and unbearable. I’ve been belittled and demeaned and overworked to the point that I am stepping outside to cry multiple times a week. It’s affected my mental health, my confidence, and my self-esteem. I’m an introvert at heart, but work is so exhausting and draining that all I want to do on nights and weekends is stay home on my couch. I feel like a complete recluse, and it’s starting to affect my relationships at this point. Overall, this place has completely broken me. Here are a few examples of the crap I have put up with: One week, I worked 39 hours in three days with no breaks at all. Management did not even notice this, let alone acknowledge this. One of…
So the bosses, managers, leads get a raise, prices for everything in the store raise $1 for 95% of product. When the entire group “unionized” to talk to store director, everyone that was there had our hours cut. We contacted our union rep and now we are set for a Strike- getting paid more than 40hr work week. Then we found out from the only cool lead that our hours are getting cut EVEN FURTHER since we are “going on strike”.
Fully Staffed…
just joined the IWW (union)
recently joined a union. If my workplace is not fully unionized, is there anything the union (IWW) in this case can do to help me if my new employer tries anything fishy? or does the entire company have to be unionized for them to do anything to help me?
idk how to feel. am I petty?
Edit: I live in an extremely rural area. Like extremely. Sorry it's so long. Major life decision. So the company I'm working for I quit working for then came back. I have done everything they asked of me to move up. Only get great reviews. Got my degree and my masters for them. Now they are promoting people with no degrees and very little experience over me. Obviously toxic culture. Too combat this, I positioned myself into a job where no one else can get experience for my promotion. I'm literally the only one below it and the only one left. Everyone else with experience found another job or just walked out. So they are posting the promotion here shortly and I messaged the hiring manager to verify. They literally replied to me that “Hopefully, I have been working hard to earn it and be the best candidate. They have…
Help with interview?
I have a job interview in two days. Its a bilingual position. They know I am a beginner in the 2nd language and want to test how much I know. I was told they would only ask a few questions in the other language. Speaking the language is a major weakness for me, but I'm thinking I'll at least have a grasp on what they are saying. I know for a fact they offer free language classes to their employees, so I could potentially still get the job. Any tips on how to handle the questions if I don't know how to answer them in the second language? Any general tips?
