As I read posts about employers not paying employees what they deserve.. or not paying them at all.. my mind has drifted towards religious workers, their working conditions, and how those working conditions are “normal”. I'm not talking about the Jeffries or Osteens or Grahams or Hagees of the world. I'm talking about the religious worker who gets paid at a below-the-market rate, is paid inconsistently and it's subject to terms and conditions of employment no School District would allow… and it's all acceptable and normal because they're not “employees” but rather “independent contractors” or “called ministers” which, in turn, means labor laws can not be applied. And it's no longer just the run-of-the-mill religious worker: many denominations are designating their clergy as “independent contractors” which exposes these clergy to the types of abuses we seen in the fast-food industry (low pay, inconsistent pay schedules, the “Karens” of the congregation,…
They won’t send any type of mail.
I took the assessment for Deloitte(USI) in January. I cracked it and I even appeared for the interview. The interview went well. After all interviews were concluded, they kept extending the result date for that role, but they mailed me continuously to wait patiently for the result. Finally, the result was announced. Most of them got either the confirmation or rejection letters. But some people didn't got any, that includes me. Why would they send me all those mails telling me to wait patient, and when the time comes they totally ignored me. I sent them an email requesting the status of my application but they didn't replied. And they call the themselves one of the biggest professional network firms! Is this professional ?

Off The Clock Time & Wage Theft
At my work-at-home job in Ontario, it takes an average of 15 minutes to start up my (work-provided) terminal and get everything loaded up, signed in, and ready to punch. Not all of that requires me to be in my chair the whole time, but there's about five sets of logins to perform and at least one tool that always takes at least 2-3 minutes to load. At the end of the whole drawn-out process, finally I can punch and start getting paid. I've heard various things about the legality of “OTC Time” in the States. Does anyone know if this set-up time is technically wage theft in Canada? If I want to proceed with a complaint, what's the best way to go about it? Aside from that 15 minutes I do generally like my job and would rather not jeopardize it, but I also want to be fairly compensated…
Happiness Data
So this data analysis project measured happiness around the world. Can I call BS on the bases of low-income workers, disabled individuals, and the ever growing homeless population in the US? Also, curious the takes of others from different countries? Do we think they used the right metrics? I think this is a poor representation and makes it look like the US is still the ‘happiest place on earth’. What metrics would you suggest they include if they were to expand the program to make it more accurate and reflective? Happiness Data Project *not exactly anti-work related, but feels like it goes against what we are trying to show/accomplish
Boss vs college
I am currently in graduate school while employed 40/hrs a week. My classes are only at night but I have to leave work early 2 nights a week. Every time I have to leave my boss makes a big deal about it around that time. When ever I remind him that I have to leave early he just sorta quietly ignores me. School is my top priority but I also need this job to pay for everything including school. Should I say anything to my boss? I work in a very unique industry and this is the only place close to my residence so finding a new job isn’t really an option. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
What can I do once I’m laid off?
Hello I just got laid off from my second part time job. I had hours in October through early January so I’m curious as to what I can do in terms of unemployment. I have another job that I also am part time at so I’m not sure if that affects anything. I live in PA and I’m unsure as to what their unemployment entails. Anyone have any guidance?
I don't know if this is in the right sub for this lol but you guys collectively are very smart! I won't name Shame them and won't reveal during any direct messages. So don't even try! But they are a billion dollar company. As I was browsing the internet in my leasure time. I was shocked and hilariously appalled that the porn I was watching was the EXACT same hold music we were using for years at my old job! I always felt like I found the holy grail of dirt on an otherwise clean company! After being fired last year for random nit picking bullshit I was bored today and I was just curious if I could do anything with this info.
Anyone have this happen? Weather
Back in 2008/2009 I worked for a major insurance company that would soon off shore every job in our building (Over 50K workers) to India, but I had a shift change up and I would come in early at 5AM. During my commute into work we had a huge snowstorm which is typical for our area but I got caught in it right as I was coming into work and no plows were out and we quickly got a couple inches on the highway. I was only a half hour late and of course the snowstorm died and everything melted and was plowed quickly afterwards. The manager who questioned me for being late commented, “I didn't see any snow out there” I checked his Linkedin for Years as he struggled to find work once we all got laid off.
