This community made a lot of noise late last year/early this year about a potential walk out on May 1st, but we’re just over a month from that day, and I’ve not seen the first post discussing if it’s still happening, what the plan is, who’s coordinating it, nothing. Does anyone have any information on this?
Exactly what the title says. I enjoy working. I don't mind it. What I DO mind is the corporation that I work for, that made 90+ billion dollars in sales last year, has the gall and audacity to tell us that they can't afford to give us raises, yet they continue to hire new people in at higher rates, they continue to drive away seasoned, good workers with their micromanaging, and they are genuinely confused as to why they can't retain anyone. I am so fucking tired of busting ass and only getting shit on because of it. “Oh we can't afford that”. “We work for a Fortune 50 company, they should be grateful”. “I will never pay someone over 15 dollars an hour”. Like. BRO. COME ON. we're not asking for yachts or mansions or free stuff, I just want to be able to afford a two bedroom apartment…
There are “non-profit” sites, I’m not sure if mentioning names would get me in trouble but one that starts with “C” and the other with “V” that “supposed non-profit” organizations post “volunteer opportunities” or “unpaid internships” whichever it might be, which post “opportunities” that ARE supposed to be paid jobs. They ask for a long list of strict prerequisites and requirements to WORK FOR FREE! I just applied for one of these “volunteering positions” as a Digital Marketing Ads | SEO Manager just out of curiosity to see their response, and the audacity of the program director asking me for 3 tests about analytics, charts, & writing sample, 3 professional references and expert experience to WORK FOR FREE!. When I replied to her request saying: “I’m giving you free labor that will benefit YOU, why should I jump through hoops to get a free labor position that you will benefit…
Do not show these employers any loyalty.
Years ago, I gave an employer one months notice, because we were relocating for my wife’s job, with a new baby, and I wanted to give them time to replace me, because I was in a critical position. My goal was to be a stay-at-home dad for a few months, in our new city, before reentering the workforce. After two weeks, it became apparent that they weren’t going to find a replacement. They asked if I would be willing to work part time remotely, at an hourly rate. I agreed, and, of course the workload required that I work full-time anyway. At one point, I actually had to travel back to the office for a couple of days, so we had to fly my mother-in-law out to watch the baby. I ended up working for them three months after relocating. When they found inappropriate replacement candidate, they notified me, via…
Delusional from the top down
Now look this sounds crass and pretty broad, I just see a lot of posts where people talk about deliberately doing certain things to fuck their places of employment over. And while I get there anger, and while it is justified, who do you think is gonna clean that up or fix that? It’s not gonna be your boss lol, it’s gonna be some other minimum wage fuck jus like you and me, getting fucked over for something he didn’t have anything to do with. I know it’s not a majority but any means, but people have done this at my job before so seeing other people do it just kind of makes me angry. Dumb rant over
I can read my workday future
Today is my last day!!!
I am so thrilled. I’ve been at this company for three years. They don’t value their employees, have sketchy practices, and overall my mental health has greatly declined since I’ve been working here. Next week I start a new job, where I get to work from home. I get to hang out with my husband and my animals all day. I get to stay home where I belong- and still be a functioning member of society and hold down a full time job. This sub really gave me the courage to start looking for other opportunities, and to not be afraid to prioritize myself when looking for a new job. I am so excited!
I have always enjoyed being a hermit in this page after having almost 10+ years of shitty jobs, shitty bosses, and shitty situations. For the past 2 years, things were finally turning up for me when my salary went up almost 3 times from what I have originally worked for, and it was for a dream company. This allowed me to stop working at least 2 or 3 jobs (freelancing on top of my usual 9-5) just to be able to accommodate living in a HCL and try to support my elderly parents. Even with the pandemic, I felt really lucky, and was on cloud9. The fact that I didn’t have to work close to 80 hours a week felt like a huge relief and I did everything I could to stay on my dream job which I have been working for almost a year. This, however, fell very short.…
