You need to ask for wages then. Even answering a work related text, you must be compensated. If you work for a corporation or franchise, contact the HR department to discuss your manager asking you to work off the clock and how you will be paid. How do I know this? Because my employer just got hit with a lawsuit and policies have been created due to this.

So I’ve been working at my job for about 9 months now. I was told yesterday I was getting laid off because my position will be obsolete. My employers said they’d give me letters of recommendation, as well as a letter for unemployment. They also gave me a months heads up. The issue is, they didn’t give me a set date that’d I’d be out of a job. I’m grateful they gave me a heads up so I can get my shit together, but the no date thing is throwing me off? Can they do that? Should I quit? I’ve never been fired/laid off before, and I don’t know how this works. I’m in the US if that helps. I apologize if this isn’t the place to ask, if not please let me know. I’m not sure who else to ask.

I was in a meeting yesterday and one of the administrators was complaining about not being able to find enough people to teach certain classes because everyone was too overloaded. I asked what I thought was a simple question, “When does this become enough of an issue that we have to hire more people?” and everyone in the meeting laughed at me. Then they assumed I meant hiring more admins (b/c that's the only thing they are conditioned to even want I guess?) when what I really meant was hiring more professors because we truly are expected to do too much. I work basically nonstop and I'm not even getting paid enough to be able to afford a house. What's sad is that everyone in the room was sympathetic to my point but they've been around long enough to know that the answer of the institution is always going to…

I just wanted to say thanks for all the posts you all write. I see them from time to time and it helps inspire the cooperate greed that mar the settings of the games I make. Keep fighting the good fight and inspiring each other.
