Out of 12 waitress working in our restaurant for years, our manager has promoted the only man at work, who started 5 weeks ago.

Was told to post this here- I work in a restaurant where the entire staff is women. The owner is a man, the general manager is a man but the staff is all women. When we needed an assitant manager instead of hiring one of us he brough in his friend (a man) who had no restaurant experience to be our assitant manager. He didn't even work as a waiter, he went straight to being assitant manager. This guy has now left and we asked both the boss and manager to promote from within and give the job to anyone of us, we have the experience, are ready for the position, some of us have been working here for years, we know everything there's to know. They said they'd think about it and days after they hired another man, the son of a friend who had no restaurant experience at…

I work in the UK and all our workforce has given up, is it just my company?

So I read a LOT about American workers who are taking action having been disenfranchised and I've only just realised that everyone but the upper crust of management at my company is the same. I work for a motorhomes manufacturer in their accounts department so I have direct access to the finances, I see how much we make per motor home including how much we flipped used ones for. Our manufacturing line is populated by guys trying to get by, I'm friends with a lot of them because we all sit in the car park and talk shop over cigarettes and such. They don't get PPE, they have no training and get berated when vans come out to a low finish. Guys have gotten injured, maimed etc but its all been brushed under the carpet. The factory is a death trap (I worked in a higher engineering job in aviation…

Why do I still feel guilty calling out?

I know all the facts. I'm underpaid and overworked. My boss wouldn't give a crap if I ended up in the hospital and would just be angry I wasn't at work. If I died, they would replace me in a heartbeat. And yet when I have to call out, because I'm sick or just feeling horrible then I feel very guilty and like I should be dragging myself into work anyway. It's a very annoying reaction. I only call out when I feel bad, never because I'm faking it just want a day off, I don't get drunk and call out but I still feel guilty about being legitimately sick. Gaslighting is one hell of a drug.
