About 8 years ago I was working for a guy who for years was ahead of his time in our work industry. He had all the major brands as clients in our country and was absolutely creaming it. Unfortunately for him though, everyone else eventually caught up, began to beat his prices, and ultimately other people were more of a pleasure to deal with than him. So now it's just me working for this guy. His involvement in his business is nothing more than constantly telling me how “busy” he is (fun fact. He was never busy). He now realizes business is tough and decides to sell. In comes my new boss, a young guy, only a couple of years older than me. He's enthusiastic, personable, has realistic goals and some unrealistic goals. Wants to take me on board with his new acquisition, offers me a small pay rise and…

My uncle works at a company that recently switched owners. He just had surgery and took time off. When he got his check after his time off, it did not include his sick leave pay. He thought it was an oversight or some hiccup while things changed hands. But, today he found out that essentially he lost all his accumulated PTO and sick leave when the company changed owners. Apparently, sick leave and PTO is not “protected” in Colorado or something like that. So basically, the company wiped his PTO and sick leave clean and are shrugging their shoulders and saying, “too bad.” It is obviously a terrible thing to do. However, is this actually legal? In regards to how to push back, anyone have any suggestions?? Thank you in advance for your advice!

This is half joke half serious. I have a pretty good blue collar City job with a strong Union. Haven’t had a “real” job in 8 years But I’d like to get a part time or per diem. job like at a Starbucks or something for fun When I was younger I worked entry level jobs and remember how helpless I felt. I’d like to go back to one, make friends, meet people. Hangout with the workers. But also revel in the fact that I don’t NEED the job. I’d like to get hired some place and just be that workers rights anti work guy. And stand up for the people getting played. And be an example for those guys and gals that there’s better opportunities out there. How do people apply these days??

I work at a retail store part time. So naturally every few months we have to do inventory. It's a big pain as one can assume and it takes all hands on deck to complete. It's so serious that some people have to stay till 12 am. Well tomorrow we have to do inventory and they scheduled me for and 8 hour shift in the worst possible way. It's 12:30-4 then 8-12. I don't know why they split it. It's literally the dumbest thing ever. Not to mention I live 30 minutes away and gas is around $4.30 where I am from. But on top of that it's my girlfriend's birthday tomorrow. I really love her and want to spend time with her that day. She did so much for me my birthday that I want to do the same for her. …actually just means the labor market has evolved and business are refusing to or cannot adapt. Tough shit, that’s the proverbial free market. Just my hot take on a Friday night.
