I want this office to be your “second home”

We had a meeting today in the office after work (on a Friday Evening!) where essentially I was told to work more while being paid the same. Didn’t even get paid for the time during the meeting. Wants me to come to work 20min earlier eventhough I won’t get paid for them. Wants us to take ‘leadership’ and ‘initiative’ and think of it as a second home??? So tired of this bullshit. Makes me feel so sad that I am probably 30+ years from retirement. Edit: a word

A year ago I was fired for asking for an accommodation for a disability

I was initially hired for the job 2 years ago (a outdoor nature day camp at a house of worship) but the camp was shut down due to Covid. Fast forward to last year when I reinterviewed and was offered the job again. I accepted and was excited because I hadn’t been able to work in about 6 years due to disability. It seemed like a good way to get back into working with kids, which I absolutely love. I’m overqualified for the job and they said they were thrilled to have someone who could institute arts programming on top of teaching. I was filling out the very invasive medical paperwork a few months later and put down that I needed an accommodation. In the case of extreme temps (90+ but fairly rare in this area) I might need to go indoors and cool off for up to 10 minutes…

My Best Ever Job Was Regular Hours, Hard Work, and Low Pay.

The best job I've ever had, and I've had quite a few, was neither short hours, nor a decent wage. It was cultivating and harvesting shiitake mushrooms. What made it so great was that I worked alone 90% of the time, and it was in the mountains amongst nature. 40/ wk for 140,000 ¥/mo. (about 1,175$/mo), so like not really a livable wage for a grown-up with a family, etc…, but there was zero stress. It was physically quite hard work; carrying logs every day in the summer and cutting down trees, cutting them into 1 meter long sections, and hauling them out in the winter. Very strenuous work. The boss was almost never around, but there were lots of birds, flowers, snakes, frogs, etc… If I was really tired I would just lie down on a mossy patch of ground and take a little nap. I guess I'm just…

The Right says if billionares are taxed to much, they’ll lose insentive… When workers lose insentive because of low pay, they don’t apply the same logic…. Instead, they’ll call you stupid for taking a low paying job, while insisting that those same services should exist…

They insist that “stupid people” exist, and insist on the necessity of bashing them. Kinda almost like, abuse? A master-slave dynamic? How lovely.
