Zoom interviews

Hello, I have an important zoom interview coming up in a few days. I have never done an important interview without shoes on, but I also don't wear shoes in the house. What do most people do during a zoom interview from home, wear shoes or don't wear shoes?

My coworkers and I aren’t getting fair breaks

Started my new job last month and am immediately noticing coworkers aren't getting breaks as promised. Entitled to 2 15 minute breaks per day and one unpaid 30 minute lunch. Well we start at 8. And some coworkers and i aren't taking lunch till about 3pm. And other coworkers aren't taking their 15s at all. I'll take my “15 minute” but it'll last maybe 4 minutes. I remember reading here that if you don't take a half hour lunch break 5 hours after working you are entitled to time and a half. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I tried looking it up and it seems this may only apply to minors Edit: this is New Jersey. And it appears there is no guarantee of a break. Can anyone confirm for NJ specifically?

People who work for good companies/good industries, can you share how you got where you are for those of us in much worse conditions?

I have seen many posts from people on this and similar subs in which people talk of horrible conditions/pay, nearly as poor conditions as legally possible. You then see people in comments or on the following post on the sub share their story and their bad day is a paradise for many others. If you are a lucky one making more than 40k a year and don't shed actual blood, sweat, and tears at work, can you please leave some bread crumbs for those of us who are trying but have no clear path to success? No implication that those who have a good job did not work for their position, just pointing out that one way to help your fellow workers/class is just sharing some helpful advice if you have it. I'm also aware that many who are in a comparatively successful role may have gotten their with out…

Boss adding some extra duties to job, need advice

My job entails waiting at home for customers to call, then I help them out over the phone or go out to fix the issue. Boss said they want to add some extra duties to the job that would essentially keep us one of busy in-between calls by doing work at the office while the other teammember remains out in the field (at home or doing the visits). These extra duties are actually work for another company location that is understaffed, it’s not a normal part of my job and there is no extra compensation. The thing is, I know I probably will end up being expected to do these extra duties while other people get to stay home because I live very close to the company office. I’m determined not to do more than my fair share, if others aren’t taking their turn at the office, then I’m not…

Employer hasn’t been paying health insurance premiums… Whoopsie

I'm married with four kids. Until recently we got our health insurance coverage through my wife's job. But she recently switched to a new job for more pay, but they don't offer health insurance. So I enrolled at my job. Everything seemed fine. I did all of the things I was supposed to. I received our coverage packet and our insurance cards in the mail. We've even been to our respective doctors and picked up medications since then. But my wife called me at work today to tell me that one of our kids had to cancel a doctor's appointment for a new medical issue that just popped up because our coverage isn't valid. The doctor's office apparently said that no one has been paying the premium. I got ahold of the person who runs payroll at my job, and she said that on her end it looks like I'm…

Helping the older folks – customer service rant

There is something extremely frightening and sad when helping senior customers. They sound like zombies and yes you can say it's old age. However, I've been studying brain health and the damaging effects of stress. This system literally destroyed their minds and body. Then they get shipped to a senior center to die. Not saying this is the only country that does it, but fuck it's terrifying to live a life just to be a number in a box It's extremely sad and it makes me want to run as fast as I can out of this hell hole! I dont want to be a withered away human that had my life sucked away for money and retirement funds for maybe 8 years of life where I can't even move anymore. I'm planning my escape from the US to a country this place would consider “uncivilized” however they actually live…

Can I quit yet?

Put my 2 weeks notice in saying I’d leave on the 10th, but they’ve found someone to replace me already! I most likely won’t have to train her since it’s a 2 person shift. Can I just not uphold my 2 weeks because she’s already hired? Her first day is scheduled to be the 11th and I already have another job offer. I have no other reason to stay. (This is an entry level job so I won’t have to worry about contracts)
