My old job I was an hourly employee. Unexpectedly, I was called for 6 days of jury duty and when you’re called into jury duty, you get basically a dime a day for your service. As a full-time hourly employee, I didn’t get to be paid for those days and was freaking out on how to make ends meet. HR took notice and asked others to donate their PTO to me. I had some agree and I felt so goddamn guilty but in the end I never saw any of it! HR ghosted me and I was fucked. Anyways, fuck the govt and capitalism.
I signed a 50% contract and since I've started I've been put down to work every single day. Whilst I've done this the last 2 weeks since they are so busy, this is not what I want at all. I was told at first it will be 3 days a week but when I spoke to my boss, he said that he doesn't care if I'm even on a 30% contract, from his point of view if he needs me 100% he will put me down for that. Am I wrong thinking this is messed up? Not even asking me if I can do it. This job is killing me 5 days a week physically and mentally.
Preposition to 32 hour work week.
While at work during our daily meeting I suggested a 4 day work week. Initially it was gawked at, dismissed, slandered and ignored by most. One person said 4×10 would be nice. The moment I said ‘No, Im saying 4×8.’ the room LOST THEIR SHIT. Needless to say I said nothing. Middle aged white people just the suggestion to change is hostile.
This is for the couples trying to balance work and family life, the recent graduates scared shitless about how they are going to pay back a hundred grand each in student loans, the single dads who can't afford to take a day unpaid, and those that grind day-in, day-out just to make ends meet. In the United States, our bosses give us 10 days of PTO a year–15 if we're lucky or in senior management–and as they do so, they puff out their chests like they've done us a favor. Hint: They haven't. 10 days is just enough to give us hope, to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we're going to get run over by a train before we ever reach it. I used ten days this year by February 1st. Did I go on a vacation? Ha! I can't remember the last time I've…
Rant/question I'm a new analyst (government job). Apparently in one of the “tougher analyst positions” that takes a very long time before you are solid. My training is inadequate, I hardly ask questions to begin with but when I do I get told that's a dumb question or I should know that already. I've been working extremely hard and even staying in late daily to keep up with with the grind, and so far I have kept up and done well. It was whispered to me that someone in upper management thinks I'm not talking it serious or cut out for this… 1 I have been working extremely hard and keeping up 2 how would someone in management have any info to base their opinion of me off of? I literally never had meetings with them or worked with them where they could form any type of opinion of me.…
