So I am gonna be blunt about this situation: I work at a local coffee shop in my town that is well know and has several locations. Recently last month, they decided to change the way our pay is distributed. Usually at the end of every shift, the people who worked that shift take the cash tips and credit tips (you know, pretty normal and reliable) while being paid between $9.85-$11.15 an hour. It's a pretty busy and well known place so tips push pay up to around $22 an hour. This is where it all goes to shit. The pay change sounded like bullshit and EVERYONE hated the idea, except the owner. He decided to put in affect tip pooling. Except, instead of tip pooling for each shop, the ENTIRE company tip pools and the money get distributed based on hours worked. Which didn't make sense, because the fact…
For context, I recently got some grave news about my dog and I still showed up to work, told my boss what happened and I said I was still willing to do any other job in the store, just didn’t want to cashier. They told me to take the day off. The next day, on my actual day off they are now asking me to come in because I “missed hours and didn’t come in yesterday”. I literally had a panic attack in my car, and still showed up. But it somehow falls back on me because I “didn’t show up yesterday”. Fuckin joke of a job.
Never worked before
So context I’m disabled my whole life …it’s been my excuse for not working…I’m pretty sure I could do it if I tried but I’m afraid of a hierarchy they’ve built at wherever i go and to be honest I’m weak when it comes to that I’ve been feeling useless lately and when I tell people this “Oh you should get a job “ And I smile and agree but really do I want one not only cuz I don’t drive so I have to rely on everyone else to take me pick me up which is embarrassing enough but taking orders from someone that doesn’t like me for no reason I can’t deal with. I’m not sure what I’m trying to get with this post but I want to not feel useless and a job won’t make me any happier it’ll just shift my anxiety
When I was working the other day I saw manager send two people home early because they were on there phone and when she asked for there phones and they refused she sent them home it. Some context I work at a fast food restaurant/diary market? And qt that time we were kinda slow so(I would understand her sending them home if they are one there phone when they have stuff they should be doing but not when there isn't much to do) I feel like she(the manager) is targeting them specifically because I haven't seen her send anyone else home, and she herself gets on her phone while on shift Edit: we have like 5 to 7 managers idk but she is the only manager to do this and also not even the head manager.
A bit less than 3 weeks ago, I was moved from the department that I’d started in at my company and made to join a new one where someone had quit without notice. I wasn’t told this, and instead was told that I had ‘talents that had been noticed that made me suited to the new role’. This new role is far more physically demanding than the previous one, requiring me to lift heavy boxes throughout my entire shift. After seeing the nature of the work, I voiced my concerns that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the physicality the new position, but I was told that “I shouldn’t feel like I would just be able to return to my old department if this didn’t work out.” And then on my first day there was almost an accident. It was while showing me how pallets of boxes were…
Exploitation knows no moral bounds!
Whilst kind hearted Polish citizens are busy welcoming fleeing traumatised Ukranian women and children, providing them with comfort, food, clothing and shelter, a British Government Minister has suggested the terrified and exhauseted evacuees could be put to work in the muddy fields of Kent and Lincolnshire. Immigration minister Kevin Foster has been criticised after he suggested Ukrainians fleeing war should apply for work visas to come to the UK. In a now-deleted Twitter post, the Conservative MP said Ukrainians could qualify for the seasonal worker scheme – where people can come to the UK for up to six months to work in jobs such as fruit and vegetable picking In a now-deleted Twitter post, the Conservative MP said Ukrainians could qualify for the seasonal worker scheme – where people can come to the UK for up to six months to work in jobs such as fruit and vegetable picking…

I've worked at this union factory in NY for over a decade without incident and now they are making us work potentially every single day. Work/life balance is disgusting. I can't make any plans to do anything, I never know the next time I will get to see friends, family, or even my own children. Forget about any leisure time. I see this as a legal loophole that is driven by the capitalist agenda, and it is simply morally wrong. I can't even begin to understand why the state would approve something like this.
My dear brother posted this today
To all my Facebook friends and coworkers. I've given five years plus to Advance Auto Parts as a faithful employee. But recently in November of last year I had a health crisis which forced me to acknowledge my mortality by being hospitalized for two weeks fir renal failure heart failure and.COPD. And so I applied for the company paid fmla disability for my medical leave only to be stonewalled and treated like an undesirable. Proving that the company will not have your back as you've had theirs. Attempts to contact Tom Greco ( the CEO) about this unfair business practice has met with nothing but resistance. 3 mos with no help or income from this employer after five years of faithful service and no obvious concern for my wellbeing has forced me to throw out this dirty laundry for everyone to see. I normally would be loathed to put anything…
