I work part time at a restaurant along with studying for a degree in the week. i’ve very explicitly told my manager my limit is 20 hours a week, and most the time i’ve done my 20 hours before the weekend comes round. at least twice a week every week she will message me asking if i can come in to ‘cover’ or ‘help out’ for someone who’s called in sick. i really don’t want to but the way it’s phrased is an expectation for me to come in. it’s really not my fault if someone calls in sick and when i say no i get met with something like, ‘we could really use the help from you, others have helped out before’ or ‘we like people who are dependable in this company’. it’s getting pretty tiring. if one person calling in sick messes up service for the entire restaurant,…
Work Issues
I work at a huge global conglomerate and it's just depressing. It's an extremely competitive environment and people treat each other like crap. It's almost like being in a war torn country…alliances must be made, people backstab one another and/or blame their co workers for any little problem they run into. People are shallow and desperate. It's so depressing…but what can you do? The benefits are decent and the pay has the capacity to become high. It's just sad and appalling that people lose any semblance of their humanity competing constantly with others. It's soulless.
To be your own boss
So, here's what happened when I got back from my afternoon run. Once everyone finished their runs, we all got called into the lunch room. Union organiser, 3 levels of managers and the owner were all present. Owner went on at some length about the unexpected software problem, how it wasn't really anyone's fault, and that failure to make other arrangements was an oversight (that was as close as we got to an apology) He then went on to say that “at great expense to the company” they had arranged an out of sequence interim payment so everyone would be paid on time after all. The fact that this was done “at great expense to the company” was reiterated 4 or 5 times throughout the talk, but the crux was that we would be getting paid on time. After the talk, we all filed out to go home. The manager…
I feel really unwell. This is a call center job. I notified 3 of my supervisors and the one who was giving me the training via chat, notifed all 4 of them. Shut down the work PC and now I'm recovering. I don't care if they fire me. I (my health) come first, it's not my fault I've fallen ill now. Also shut down my work phone so they can't bother me while I recover.
Coming back from vacation
My job doesn’t have a backup even tho I’ve asked for one numerous times. I’m coming back to work after having a week off and just dreading the weeks it’s going to take to unbury myself. Especially bc this vacation wasn’t the greatest-I hosted family which tbh sucks-and now I’m dreading going back to a pile of work. I’m trying not to worry about it and think of how they treat me like shit and therefore I shouldn’t care about my workload but still I do.
Just a rant
Long story short- applied to many jobs I have the skills and education for, applied to some that I would be over qualified for. This rant is regarding one interview I was meant to go to. Had to print out my resume and references, I had to walk to the printer shop and pay for this, and I had to take an Lyft to the location, which was around $80. (The scheduling for the interview was a little tight so I had to get there quicker instead of taking public transport, yes I am working on getting my license, my lease is ending soon, I will move to be closer to my job and get a car once I get my license) the person meant to interview me was a doctor and didn’t even have “time” for a 5-15 minute chat after I came as she was “busy” and “on…
