I personally wouldn't. I'd just… LIVE my life instead of slaving away.
Rent, as well as the homelessness that comes along with not being able to afford it, is what forces many of us into selling our labor and makes us much more desperate in doing so. Housing as a basic right would be the single greatest victory for the labor rights movement. It's difficult to express how much power that would put back into the hands of the workers. So of course, guaranteed access to housing is the real goal, but I have my doubts that we can make this happen in one move (as nice as it would be). Much like our fight to take back our places of work, we need to take steps in organization toward realizing the true ends. Tenant unions and labor unions have a lot in common. Vulnerable people who are beholden to capitalists have more power when they negotiate together. That's harm reduction right…
I’m just frustrated
For context, I’m 24 and have been unemployed for 6 months now trying to find a job. It has been hard finding a job. When people say “everywhere is hiring”, it does not relate to my profession per se. What really has gotten me down in such a depressive mood is the housing crisis. I have been offered a decent paying job which made me super excited. But then, the employer wants me to start in a few weeks. I told them that does not give me enough time to look for an apartment. He said I could do virtual for a week but they’re anxious to start getting me going on projects. I haven’t answered back yet because, while I do appreciate how they are giving me a week remote, a few weeks still doesn’t feel like enough time to find a place, which leads me to my last…
Antiwork or AntiLandlord
Is it just me or is there a lot more content these days complaining about landlords? Rule 3 says no off-topic content but all these posts about complaining about landlords feels off topic to me. What does your landlord being an asshole have to do with your work?? Any chance we can start getting these posts removed to keep the focus on shitty employers? Cheers

Reporting wage theft?
Me and my partner recently started a new job, about a week ago, and are being expected to work off the clock (along with every other person on night shift) or we risk being fired. We’re required to clock out at a specific time and continue working, off the clock, until the entire store is clean and closed down. Though it doesn’t take that long, the prospect of being forced to work off the clock for any amount of time and risk being fired if we don’t is not something that’s any sort of correct. Said employer will also fire employees for sitting even for a few minutes, threatens to fire people if they call in even for a day, threatens to fire us if we “goof off” (we don’t), and just watches the store cameras the entire day. Is there any way to report this? We’ve only been here…
So my fiance lives in another province, and soon we are moving them cross country. We don't have much money and the move is soon. We need every penny since it'll take about a week to move them, and there is no guarantee they will have a job once we are moved in. Onto the story. My fiance works night shift at a large Home Depot type Canadian exclusive store as night crew. Yesterday they did not go for A family emergency (an emergency that happens quite often, and the manager was told before hiring that if this were to ever come up they would not come in that night). Tonight management offered everyone a choice to stay or go home since there was not anything to do. My fiance chose to go home since everyone but one person had made up their mind that they wanted to go home.…
Just got off the phone with the union organiser, apparently the issue has been fixed, and I'll find out more when I get back to the depot. He strongly suggested I delete the earlier post, as the identifying info was a little too clear, and he'd already had calls about it asking if it was “workplace”. Thanks all for the support, and I'll be back with a full update later with less identifying info
quitting my best buy job
They treated me like shit, cut my hours down to one day a week with no explanation or reason. I did nothing wrong just happened to me randomly. When trying to talk to my managers about it over text, I texted two managers. One who ignored my text and left it on read. Then another who replied 4 days later saying “I'll see what I can do”. So now my one day a week on the schedule is this Friday and I'm planning on not going. I'm not gonna accept any calls from them I'm not showing up I'm not giving a notice. Is there any consequences for this on my end? I don't care about referrals or putting this job down as a reference. They treat me like shit imma treat them shitty back.
