It’s my last week at my job of 8 years!
Needless to say, I’m very excited, but scared. For the last 8 years I have managed within the hospitality field. My company started as an independent, creative, innovative company, and I was excited to be there. But, as the years went on, it grew and grew. Money became more important than people and my department took a back seat to corporate profits. I was passed over again and again for a promotion, while having to train all of my direct supervisors. All of which only lasted a year. During Covid I was forced to lay off my team, and had to run things by myself for nearly a year until I could bring people back. Both of my parents died within the last two years (not Covid related) and my company just did not care.. I got to the point where I was having mental breakdowns nearly every day. I…

I am dealing with a difficult coworker. I have anxiety, depression, adhd, ptsd from an abusive relationship I JUST got out of, and high blood pressure. I am also atheist. All of which my boss knows. I am constantly having to deal with her second guessing my answers and equally as much raising her voice and being very negative towards me for any little problem or decision I make. She intersects rudely into conversations I am having with my boss frequently because we have an 'open office' for 'team communication'. Today it was so bad I had to leave the office to get away from her reaction as I was fighting a panic attack. I've talked to my boss repeatedly and hr a few times. When i took it to HR, they requested we have a sit down meeting. My boss even recorded the entire conversation and said to come…
I’m a high school student working a small, semi-seedy roller rink in a big city. I’m paid $7.25 an hour (minimum wage where I live) plus tips (which are very little because who tips at a roller rink). Originally I was a-okay with this arrangement because I loved the work and roller skating is a passion of mine. But over time the rink has been pushing me to my limit. The big thing is that they’ve expanded their schedule and have added hours onto previously manageable shifts. Shift that were once ~4hrs 15min or so are now 6 hours or so. I could work my schedule with the old hours but now I’m less sure. Plus the 4 hours alone on roller skates are exhausting so I can’t imagine 6 with no breaks. The other thing is my co workers. Specifically my managers and the older people (all college aged…
I found out this since very long time ago… I found a behaviour pattern that if a person keeping complaining he is a working draining schedule with low wage or boss bullying, that person is going to treating people awfully bad or ranting or starting bullying, especially towards people who don't have a job or antiwork. And they think they have rights to treating (especially antiwork) people as sh*t. And the target could be their friends, children(this is most often), and even the person who having a romantic relationship with themselves. This turned to be a common warning signal for me. If your job is going to make you to treating people/children like this, that is a devil deal between you and your boss, we don't need tolerance such kind of behaviour, no matter how common they are. Just leave that person and tell him:” I know what you are…
Just cut out the corporate overlord and ensure living wages and a better service. Crowdfund a cooperative owned by the drivers but a hybrid where the consumers are a second class of members too. Hire a dev team and make an app. What is a Cooperative? A cooperative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise. In this day and age of indie startups, gig work, WFH, etc, there's no reason this industry can't just cut out the Bourgeoisie and corporate overlords and work for themselves and the customer. There's no “means of production” to be owned other than the App which any team of 5 CS students could probably make. With ever mounting economic pressure and an obvious need for this service and a relatively simple gap to fill when cutting out…
