antiwork is doing some a disservice

From what I've read of r/antiwork, it should be called r/antijerk or r/antiasshole. What I see people legitimately complain about is mostly asshole bosses and/or terrible working conditions. People are impressionable, some more than others, and particularly the young. In short, I worry that young people will come to think work=bad. “Work” is not the problem. We should not be antiwork, IMO. Assholes and poor working conditions are the problem. Some people will associate those problems with work itself. Work is rewarding for many of us, and I don't just mean financially. Work gives (most of) us purpose. Imagine you are 18 and you think work is bad. The vast majority of us will have to work in order to make ends meet for most of our lives. Going into that with the notion that work is bad just sets you up for a life of misery. Helping people is…

AITA in this situation

Gonna be vague but hopefully can get some unbiased opinions. Got a full time job cause I finished what I was doing previously and decided to work full time. Have the interview and get the job and then come for my first day… do my first day for like 3 hours cause there wasn’t that much work to do. Oh well I thought, maybe they are just easing me into it. Fast forward two months, and it’s clear that they don’t actually know what the job requires and they just hired a full-time worker for a part time job. Then they start giving me random, as close to pointless tasks as they can find just to give me some work to do. AITA for not wanting to complete these stupid tasks which are uncomfortable to complete say the least. Context: paid very well, very nice manager although not great with…

Who’s with me in dumping fiat money in exchange for a labor based currency?

Our economy revolves around the almighty dollar. The value of our dollar is well entirely made up otherwise known as fiat money. Our brand of economy is known as consumer capitalism. Consumer capitalism is hairpin focused on american consumers who have capital aka rich people with money who use and use and use whenever they want something. Consumer capitalism disregards all the proactive production (aka work) required for the aforementioned wealthy to consume. This in large is due to the fact when such practices were invented slavery was in full force. Disregarding the work and placing the useless consumer on a pedestal is exactly how we got to where we are now. Who here feels like legal U.S. tender should be backed by actual labor forcing EVERY human to live by this rule would solidify hardworkers as the individuals with the most capital and eliminating inactive consumers clenching on to…

What would it be considered if a member of management pulled you to the side and made this comment

Hi, I’m not sure if this post is allowed here. But I have a question regarding workplace harassment / sexual harassment. So, recently at my job, where there is not a policy regarding undergarments, I was approached and pulled to the side by a member of the management team to address the fact that I don’t wear a bra to work. Our uniform policy does not state anything about this. It made me extremely uncomfortable. I was notified that there are people talking about the fact that I don’t wear a bra ( I don’t give a shit). I said “okay” and then the said manager continues to go on about how they don’t want me to feel uncomfortable that people are talking about me. I tell them that I never wear a bra, and I won’t start. The entire shift I was extremely uncomfortable and then consciously thinking about…

I told my boss we need more diversity in our staff

Me: We need more diversity in our staff. Boss: We are diverse! Staff should reflect our population. The percentage of Asians in Grand Rapids is 3%. You’re one out of 16 people on our team. That’s 6%! Me: (in my head) Guess I should cut myself in half to properly reflect our population. Me: (again in my head) I wasn’t just talking about Asians, asshole.

Grad students: Did you receive a stipend increase this year? If you’re in a union, do you have to pay monthly dues to a national organization?

As everybody knows the cost of living has skyrocketed the past couple of years. My rent went up $300 a month this year in a major city in the US. Gas prices are up, cost of groceries are up too. After two years of no increase, my university announced an increase of our stipend by 3% this year (which equates to an additional $80 a month). It’s better than nothing but doesn’t come close to match the increase in cost of living in my city over the past couple years. I really want to get involved and start advocating for better pay for grad students at my university. I looked into the grad student union, and we have one, but it’s very low membership rates and is through some national organization which requires you to pay $15 monthly dues. I’m already practically broke so I don’t want to be shoveling…
