I started this job as a favor to a friend, but was disgusted by the pay. NBD, I had other income streams at the time. Now I use this customer facing position to advocate for better pay and unionization. I live in a super red county, they are really blue when you talk to them individually!
Gotta keep us productive don’t they
So six months ago I began working for an air taxi service in Alaska, USA. I’d been out of work for three months at that point, and was just happy to have a job again. The owners flew me out to their home base, I went through all the paperwork and training, and then BOOM, starting working crazy hours (height of tourist season in Alaska). I genuinely enjoy the job, but one thing that always rubbed me the wrong way was there was no mention of pay amount (at the time I was hired I honestly didn’t care, you do what you got to do to avoid starving and becoming homeless), I just started getting my paychecks and could see the pay amount. It wasn’t terrible pay, but it bothered me that I hadn’t gotten to give any input on it. Fast forward to today. I received an email out…
Support all workers
A big fuck you to all the admin! It was a mistake thinking since I was an honest employee I would keep working in a place that puts people in danger. Giving me an office didn’t boost my ego like it did for the others: I welcomed everyone in mine to prove the point it’s just a fucking rolling chair. Fuck you bitter old hags. Staff (other than Admin) were the best coworkers I could have asked for. This subreddit not only me realize my conservative values didn’t truly with my morals or religion (Christianity) and to not fear people who point fingers.
My boss has a stroke.
And the corporation doesn’t care. She gave them 11 years. Tomorrow, I talk to my coworkers about donating her time so she doesn’t have to worry about surviving. I spent years working from the ground up; I’m 25. And, if this doesn’t shake my faith… I don’t know what does. 11 years… and once your vacation/sick time is done, your time is done. I just had a son. The world is a sick place.
To the Russian people
So I've been working at this fast food place for a year, I originally came here because of the food it was my favorite but I stayed because I really like the people working with me, I usually am the weird one in a group but with these guys? I'm normal. However I've gone through a lot with this job, I've learned every position. I get paid 12.25 an hour which doesn't sound that bad but two of my coworkers who only know window and one of them has only been here for a few months is getting 12.50 and that same person wants to be and is expected to become a manaeckmger despite him barely knowing how to make food quickly, he only does window stuff which is considered bar none the easiest position in the store. I got “approved” to be a crew trainer a few months ago…
Unpaid internship bs
I’m a social work master’s student in the US, and part of the required curriculum for all MSW students is to have a 9 month internship (or 2, depending on if you had a bachelor’s in social work already or not). My school has us apply to internships we are interested in and go through the whole interview process and we are only allowed to apply to internships they have pre-approved and are listed in a special internship database they maintain. Some internships are paid but most are not. Okay so I applied to an internship that seemed cool, but had super intense requirements to just apply. Not only a resume and cover letter but also a variety of short essay questions had to be answered as well as THREE letters of recommendation. All of this had to be submitted before they’d interview me! So I do all this shit,…
