Got let go from a job in December. I just got a new job in the same industry. What I found when I got access to the system again was amusing.

So I work in an industry where everyone across the board has access to the same system, including a roster of everyone who has access to the system. Back in December, I got let go from a job I had JUST been told 4 days prior that I was doing well in. I suspected that it may have had something to do with the boss’s affair, but they gave me some bs excuse of “time management and multitasking issues”, saying the job was going to double soon. Today, after securing a new job, I got my access back to the system. Out of curiosity, I looked up everyone with access to the system at the old place to see if I could find evidence of my suspicion being correct. I did find a somewhat unfamiliar name, but it was also very familiar. See…if my old boss was named Josef Kowak,…

I was offered a job, accepted and put in my two weeks notice. Now I’m being ghosted?

I went through three rounds of interviews. Two through zoom and one in person. In the in person interview, needed to help them interpret their data and provide them with a strategy to grow the company. I shared some ideas, they offer me a job and had me sign a paper with the “offer”. I put in my two weeks notice at my current job and now they aren't responding close to the day we discussed I would be starting. Is this even legal ? Shouldn't they at least be required to tell me they are revoking my offer especially if I put in my two weeks notice at my current job? Granted, they could be busy and haven't been able to get back to me to confirm my start day. I'm a little worried now. I spent hours at the job site the day of my in person interview…

War is a Racket!

“War is a Racket” is a short book written by General Smedley D. Butler in the later 1930s before WW2. It is just as true today as it was then. There is no politics involved here. Profit needs to be taken out of war first and foremost. It isn’t normal for people in certain industries (not just the military industrial complex today) to make huge profits and enjoy the luxuries, while young men and women suffer and die in a war with nothing to possibly gain besides a small pension and some medals. Besides the mental and physical injuries, there is horrible destruction that it brings to the citizens and society and the environment. Craziest thing is that the taxpayers pay for all of it too! The racket could be smashed starting with the following steps: People that could fight in the war vote if there will be war. Everyone…

Manager won’t let us wear masks unless they’re black

So my manager is a huge anti COVID conspiracy theorist. Our county isn’t mandating masks anymore and we are allowed to keep them off at work. I work in customer service though so I prefer to wear my KN95 masks that were literally $50 because it’s a red county so no ones vaccinated. I’m triple dosed but I still wanna be cautious. Well, now my manager says no masks unless they’re black. She does not schedule me enough (12-15 hours even though she knows I need full time) so I can’t even afford normal black cloth masks, and even if I could I spent $50 on KN95 to keep myself and loved ones safe. I literally can’t even pay rent. What can I do about this, if anything?

Banking commercials

Has anyone else noticed how the newer banking commercials (and the online “banks” too) are pushing these no overdraft fee options and /or borrowing money if you have none in the account? People are in these conmercials saying they have no money but want to go out to the club, and the bank fronts them money. Are people so used to having to overdraft their accounts that this makes sense? This seems like the new norm and i don't like it at all.

I’m not on the schedule today…

This story goes back over 20 years ago, but I thought I’d share. While attending college I spent some of that time living with a longtime friend. I worked 40 hours as part time while taking a few classes. Not gonna lie, we spent most days high af and drank all the time. I mostly worked evenings so I’d always end up having to call to get my schedule so I knew what time to show up over the weekend. The assistant manager was responsible to make the schedule and could never get it submitted in time. We didn’t even have a department manager because he was let go for taking product out the back door. So most of the guys I worked with were cool. We were all around the same age and hated working retail. We only had one full timer in our department and we got along…

No water at work

I work for a pizza place inside of a gas station. There's drinking water in the gas station if you buy a drink from their fountain. My job doesn't have drinking water even though I've been pressing about it for months. I asked why the gas station charges us for water since we don't have a drinking station/fountain and the gas station said we are paying for the cups not the water. So I asked if I could bring my own cup and they said due to the pandemic I could not. So, im indeed paying for water at my workplace and have been for months. But, they claim ive been paying for cups. I honestly don't know what to do because I need this job.

Called HR trying to get a word on my PTO. I was supposed to be on a leave of absence as I need a car. Was supposed to have PTO applied long ago. Apparently, both were never applied or done. Then they deleted my employee account the day after I made the phone call!

So, who knows if I'm getting my PTO paid out. If I had known this, I would have gotten everything in an email instead of a phone call. Now I'm wondering if they deleted my employee account to claim no PTO exist. It's almost 3 weeks worth of PTO and well over $500 after taxes. Been at that company for years only to for this to happen. Wish me luck. Will find out Monday if they're true to their word. Get. Everything. In. Writing!! Lesson learned.

Went Through My Dad’s Old Union Handbooks

Starting pay for entry level fleet service (baggage handlers, people who clean the planes between flights) at Pan Am adjusted for inflation ranges between $20-30 an hour in the late 60s early 70s. They also got regular raises, real raises like 40 cents after 6 month's.
