The shipping department I work at has us working through our breaks to load/unload trucks, I understand truckers get paid by the mile and it helps them get back on the road, but I feel like there has to be a better way so loaders don't have to work through their breaks and keep the truckers running. I have half a mind to just stop working and take my break, because I'm over taking my first break and eating when my 8hr shift is almost over. Are all shipping departments like this, because the last 2 I've been at were.
Taking a flight when I’m on the clock
So, to start, my last day of work is April 15…my boss is trying to renegotiate salary etc but I’m beyond over it. However, we are on a good note right now and I don’t want to wreck that. I have vacation/sick time but am highly discouraged from using it. Almost every time I’ve taken a day off I’ve gotten in trouble for it. Thus, it’s led me into the habit of going to appointments/traveling and coming up with excuses as I go. This has fared better for me! I have a flight tomorrow, and it’s 5.5 hours nonstop. My team doesn’t know. I’m terrified because I know my boss will call me. Sure I can work on my laptop on the flight but she will be suspicious about me not answering calls. I’m a terrible liar and have no idea what to come up with. My boss has been…
Short story inspired by Antiwork
I am going to set the over/under for views at .5, but I created a short story inspired by antiwork and figured I would post it. It takes place 20 years in the future where a big Fortune 500 company gives employees the option of working 18 hours a day/7 days a week/360 days a year in a warehouse and getting to retire after 15 years. A lot of people jump at the chance because they figure no one else is really living anyway and at least they’ll have a full life afterwards, but is the project really everything it appears? Is anything worth giving up 15 years of your life for? The story explores corporate greed and becoming aware of the power that the workers have. If anyone actually reads it, thanks a ton! Link below. Also, a mod gave me permission last week to post. https://1drv.ms/b/s!Alh7xLyT-EGjhC3uZssgjUhMWPTO
Thought ye would enjoy this
Complete with 100% profit sharing. Nothing complicated just like a sandwich shop. Anyone know how to get funding that isn’t investors who want huge returns.
I, along with another colleague, were recently promoted from part-time hourly to full-time hourly. Once I started working there full time, I noticed that all of the other full time employees have a paid lunch hour. They’re in from 9-5, while we work 9-6 with an unpaid lunch hour. This doesn’t sit right with me. What’s the best approach? Do I casually bring it up with my manager? Talk to HR? Thanks in advance!
Based on what I'm seeing and hearing: 2nd inning, maybe 3rd. Sounds like a second wave is happening
I feel lost at 19
This is may be a lengthy one so read if you’re willing I’m 19 years old working for a sales company currently. I am extremely ambitious and I work hard. I hit all of my metrics with ease and close customers regularly. The money isn’t bad, but I am fed up. I love my hobbies. Working out, playing instruments , gaming, what have you. But with this job, I work 6am-4pm and it’s extremely draining. I come home mentally tapped out. I know I don’t want a corporate job especially with the idea i’ll be trapped forever. I just want to know how you guys broke out of the shackles, and any advice you can give. I have many ideas on businesses or side gigs to start up, but i feel like i have so many ideas that i can’t pick only one. I just want to hear your guys…
A weird one
