An anti-work books

Is there a book, whether it's fictional or non fictional that you feel provides an insight to part of the plight of antiwork. Maybe it's a clear quote, or just a line or analogy that made you go …huh, dang A popular example is the Same Vimes Boot Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness, the analogy made by Terry Pratchett in the book Men at Arms. I however like the views he offers in Going postal “Do you understand what I'm saying?” shouted Moist. “You can't just go around killing people!” “Why Not? You Do.” The golem lowered his arm. “What?” snapped Moist. “I do not! Who told you that?” “I Worked It Out. You Have Killed Two Point Three Three Eight People,” said the golem calmly. “I have never laid a finger on anyone in my life, Mr Pump. I may be–– all the things you know I am, but I…

Just typed out my “resignation text” on my Notes App.

I’m specifically doing it this way and not in person because I honestly don’t think I’d get a word in if I did it in person and I really think they should know my thoughts on some things (plus these people are a bit unstable). I didn’t do it as an email because they rarely check their business email, I was the one who usually did that even though I was a graphic designer. Starting my new job next Monday!

Just started my own business

I’m 26, this is terrifying. Thankfully it’s not costing me all that much because I’d inadvertently put everything in place long ago. Now my only real costs are the paperwork and a few equipment purchases. The industry I’m in is so exploitive of its workers, so the idea of being responsible only for myself is somewhat thrilling. It’s a lot of hard work I’ve done and still have to do, but my parents both successfully ran their own businesses in their respective industries and they can give me advice. It’s not a big deal, but I hope it pays off. I have another part time gig (that actually treats me decent and I really love) in a different field to help keep me afloat whilst I try and hustle for work in this one. Wish me luck.

Boss was annoyed that i had to take a dump

I worked as a chef trainee, was there for like three months and then i quit. We worked 12 hour days, and had one 15 minute break where we would eat the food that I usually cooked for us. One day after working 10 hours with a 15 minute break, all of a sudden i had to take a shit. Unfortunately my bowels didn't time it perfectly, so it was like 2 hours after our break. I told everybody that I was going to the bathroom to take a dump, and the kitchen chef looked me dead in the eyes and with the most demeaning tone in his voice he straight up asked me 'what are you doing on your break?'. Not shitting i said, and then he shook his head and mercyfully let me go to the bathroom. He was not happy. A couple of weeks later i was…

Bait-and-switch interview

So I'm sick of my current job and I've been putting applications out there. A local business that I thought would be fun to work for advertised for a “Master Scheduler” position. I have 8 years of scheduling experience in a variety of industries so I sent in my resume. They called me in for a interview yesterday and I was very excited. Background on the position: Master Schedulers in my region average at 65k-70k. I went in assuming they really meant a regular scheduler which is around 45k in my area, which I would have been fine with. I get to the interview and they end up telling me at the end that at their company they hire all office staff as “inside support” for 6-8 weeks. Here's the kicker: they pay $14 a hour and you work 3 days a week. After 8 weeks they decide if you…

Anyone antiwork, extremely spiteful but are still working there?

I’ve been with my current job and company for over 10 years. The honeymoon phase has been well and truly over hit the money is good and I enjoy the seniority and relative security, however I loathe my superior with a passion. The small comfort I do have is I have a fair bit of autonomy and my interactions with them is quite limited and inconsequential; meaning our dealings are few and far between and very rarely do we cross paths so any communications are typically through a intermediary and or over text or phone call if the situation calls for it. That said, I am pretty stressed out from the job and the industry as well. I am working towards something better and more sustainable but I wondered if people are also like me who have to make ends meet while enduring; at least for the time being.

Anti/real estate

Encouraged by antiwork movement. I just gave 7 days notice to my rental because they are dodgy, rude and constantly breach me for things such as “too many guests in one week”, and “using Facebook Marketplace”. My lease is up in 9 months and I know if they offered a renewal they'd raise the price and continue acting illegal, so I've been secretly looking and applying for properties I like, finally got approved a few days ago and emailed my 7 days notice out of no where today. They accepted and then requested “booking and evidence of a professional bond clean” and a few more, further illegal things to request and demand. Fuck the system that's been created for renters, low socio eco, and general working class. #quityourlease
